Crash within seconds of starting video playback
« on: December 01, 2018, 11:29:47 am »

not sure when this started but I'm now getting

Code: [Select]
[1201/172221.307518:ERROR:gpu_process_transport_factory.cc(1027)] Lost UI shared context.

and a crash within a few seconds of starting any video playback, nvidia 950 card with 390.x drivers and MC 24.0.64 on a debian testing machine.

resorted to using panel for video playback for now, I can fiddle around on the machine later but thought I'd post now in case there is some known issue floating around.

The message in question is of no consequence and should be ignored.

Your driver is pretty old, I would recommend updating that.
Also  check if hwaccel is turned on in the settings.

Nevermind, I just read its 64 not the 65 beta. Not sure what might then possibly cause it.

Probably won't help, since Debian Testing likely uses libva2 instead of libva1 which means you probably can't install the beta due to the unmet dependency.

After testing further, I can see that log message arrives earlier than the crash so certainly a red herring.

I have tested on another debian testing machine (which I usually only use for audio), also using a nvidia card albeit an older one (a 660), and this one crashes as soon as playback starts.

Not a lot to go on here, any basic troubleshooting to think of? e.g. ogl versions etc

further testing shows this is not a video issue, it's a network issue

If I move to local playback of the same file, it works fine

I haven't tested every single video conversion mode, just enough to find some that work and some that don't. These are

- H264-TS 1080p = FAIL
- H264-TS 1080p AutoFPS = FAIL
- MPEG2 1080p AutoFPS = FAIL
- MPEG2 1080p = FAIL
- MPEG2 720p AutoFPS = FAIL
- MPEG2 720p = FAIL
- H264-TS 720p AutoFPS = Works
- MKV H264/AAC 1080p AutoFPS = Works
- MPEG2/DVD/PAL stream with MPEG2 Audio = Works

server is on windows and running 24.0.66

nothing obvious in server logs though they are v different when comparing H264 1080p to MKV 1080p

H264 just goes on like this

Server logs look quite identical to me on the servers side, no matter which conversion I use, and all formats also come out properly. Not sure why your server isn't converting some formats properly.
Especially not sure why "H264-TS 720p AutoFPS" would work but "H264-TS 1080p AutoFPS" would not, those templates are practically identical outside of the resolution, which really should have no such effect

The underlying issue seems to be that your server is not providing streams, although the client should of course not be crashing. Not sure whats up with that either, since my server seems to be working  - unfortunately? :)

This line in your server log looks suspicious:
0011125: 11160: Sharing Plugins: CTCPSocketReader::Write: Write failed: Unknown error (socket: 2904)

Server logs look quite identical to me on the servers side, no matter which conversion I use, and all formats also come out properly. Not sure why your server isn't converting some formats properly.

I did change the socket interfaces so they are only enumerated once, not over and over again like they were before.
I can't see that affecting this though unless the computer's IP address was changing (coming out of sleep).

Ok, and for the conversions, is it consistently failing on the same conversions?
