Sound level / loudness fluctates on playback

The sound output fluctuates in terms of loudness and  I cant see what is causing this.

I assume it has something to do with the audio settings.  Can I ask what settings I should have so that the software does not apply any leveling or increasing of volume to the output.

Click the volume icon and make sure that Loudness isn't checked.

Not sure why this was happening. I changed the output to direct output and that seems to have solved it.
