24.0.7 (12/6/2018)

1. Fixed: Seek was not working when playing to the player or other zones.
2. Fixed: The UI was not getting restored on rotation and during other state changes on some versions of Android.

24.0.6 (12/5/2018)

1. Changed: DLNA: explicitly supply the library server (Panel) port with the presentation page URL for our DLNA renderers and servers.
2. Fixed: DLNA when authentication was enabled, the DeviceDescription.xml for Library Server couldn't be loaded on a remote MC. This means that if the server wasn't manually setup on the remote for authentication is might now show up in the server list.

4. NEW: Implemented an audio output plugin.
5. Fixed: DLNA devices were being propagated properly because the MAC addresses weren't being used.

24.0.5 (12/4/2018)

1. Fixed: Possible fix for the crashes on some Android versions.

24.0.4 (11/30/2018)

1. Changed: Updated the app to target the latest SDK.
2. Changed: Added permissions check when the app first starts.
3. Changed: The displayed name of the app is now just "JRiver".

2. NEW: Added playback to DLNA zones.
3. NEW: Implemented an event loop which will get a lot of other features working.

24.0.2 (11/13/2018)

1. NEW: Added a default view scheme for remote clients.
2. NEW: Added a simple interface to the app. Pressing the logo will open Panel.
3. Changed: The app name is now "JRiver for Android".

24.0.1 (11/12/2018)

1. NEW: First build.

I posted this earlier in the JRiver Android 24.0.6 thread:

The most important change is that JRiver can play the audio itself, thanks to JohnT's work.  Formerly, the playback was handed off to the browser.  This should solve some problems.

To use the JRiver engine for audio playback, select Player as the destination in settings.

JRiver will can play to the browser if you select Here in settings.  This will probably be removed in a future build.

Reinstalled... restarted phone.  Changed play to: to "player".  Still crashes.  Not sure if this is helpful info but all I can say is the app doesn't work for me yet.  Not really any predictability to the shut downs.... except I don't believe it's ever shut down during playback (I've only played a dozen or so tracks).  Usually crashes while I'm searching for something to play.

First off, the issue I had with .6 where I was getting an error about clear text is gone.  It's looking good!

At some point today I hit play, and it was all static.  I hit pause, the noise stopped, I hit play again, more static.  I went back to the front page and started over and it played music just fine.  I'll see if I can replicate this, but wanted to report it here.

Clicking the pause button seems too slow.  There's about a full second delay from when I click pause to when the music stops.  I'm getting used to it, but a few times I hit it twice by accident because there was seemingly no response.

4. NEW: Implemented an audio output plugin

Nice and it is working well.  I can push audio of various formats from MC on my desktop to my phone.  I've some testing do do but so far:
- There is some audible hiccups when I first start playing, but it is good after that (sort of sounds like it has not quite buffered enough
- I could not get the new Zone Sync to work between my local desktop MC instance and the phone (is this implemented at this stage?)

How does the Audio Path work?  eg, are you converting to 2ch PCM for example in the phone?

Audio output works, but we now need a notification pulldown control please, showing what's playing etc. :)

Other thoughts:
The playback controls seem a little laggy. (Also mentioned above)
At least at the minute, I think we need an easier way to access the version number; There's nothing in-app.
I get a white-screen on clicking on the app which lasts a good couple of seconds before I see the UI. Dunno if you can easily do anything about this?

I also hear this if I'm in the app playing music, then I minimize the app.  As soon as I return to jriver, it plays normally.

Edit: If I change the zone to 'here' this behavior stops.

Installed on a Samsung Galaxy Note 8, and had an instance of the player attempting to play two tracks at a time-- I accidentally hit "Play" on a second track without pausing the first.  Additionally, after hitting "Play" on that second track, there was no longer any control option for pausing the first track.  (It did not display, only the artwork and controls for the second track did, although I could pause that second track to allow the first one to finish playing.)

Just thought you'd like to know...

Am I missing something? I went to buy it in the Play Store and it wants me to pay $14.99? Is that because I live in Australia?

That is what I paid.  I checked and it was billed as A$14.99 including GST.

Ah ok, thanks for that.

Happy to pay this, just to support the development if that helps.

I read somewhere that this could enable say an NVidia Shield to act as a front end for JRiver server accessing files over a network, is that sound like something that may be achievable?

You would have to sideload the APK on the Shield for now as it's not marked as Android TV compatible (though I know that the team is looking at this).

Oh, that's good news. No rush really, just looking for an excuse to buy a Shield!

Yeah, If they get the Shield playing video I'll end up with multiple Shields. I could be wrong but I think MC on Android TV boxes might be a big deal.

Just tried 24.0.7 on my Mi Max 3 but unfortunately still getting stuck on a white screen.
On first load when it asks for permissions I see a very brief flash of whatever the default browser is, but after that it's the white screen.

24.0.8 seems a bit more stable (less crashes).  When playing to another zone, skips to next song prematurely.  Oplay then just stops.

24.0.9 is out and stability is much better for me.

It's not posted here yet, but it's on the Play Store.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jriver.mediacenter

For some strange reason, I have to visit that page twice before it says Update.

Is it just me or is there no way to connect to my MC server?

Not at this time.  You could use Panel for that.  The wiki has a topic on Panel.
