4K SDR video washed out in VC24
« on: December 09, 2018, 06:35:47 pm »

Recently got an LG 4K HDR monitor. 4K HDR video looks great on VC24.65 64bit when enabling HDR on windows 10 2018 October update. However, when enabling HDR in windows 10 4K SDR is washed out if I select hardware acceleration and optimized for hardware acceleration in MadVR Red October HQ 0.92.17. If I deselect hardware acceleration and optimized for hardware acceleration, the color seems fine but the resolution and picture quality degrades. I am using NVIDIA 2080 video card with 417.01 driver. Does anyone have this problem?

I found out if I turn on HDR in Windows 10 and using hardware acceleration in ROHQ, while playing SDR video, Media Center does not switch to SDR. This is probably the reason why SDR looks washed out. Is this a bug?

I don't believe you should manually turn on HDR in Windows, and instead leave Windows in SDR, and let the video renderer turn on HDR when you're playing a HDR video.
