What is file type "cda"?
« on: January 18, 2019, 06:20:22 pm »

I have MC 24 and when I rip a CD, cda appears in the file type column, a designation that I do not know.  In my previous version (21), the file type would read flac, which is what I want.

Assuming the cda is, in fact, flac, I would feel better if it read flac.  How can I change the cda to flac?

If cda is not flac, what to do?

Many thanks, mike

CDA is the file format of tracks on an Audio CD, and is shown in the CD Database that is part of MC. MC creates records of all CDs it sees when they are inserted into an optical drive on the PC.

So are you looking in the CD Database, or in the Main database that will have your ripped files, in the format you ripped too?

When you rip a CD, for example by clicking in the "Rip disc" item in the action window, you will see a link to "Options". Click that and you will see "Encoding". Whatever settings you have in there is what the CD tracks will be ripped to. So that should be set to flac. Don't forget to check the Encoder settings!

You can also change those encoding settings by going directly to "Options > Encoding".

Think of CDA files as bookmarks. They're not actual real media files, they just serve as bookmarks to the PCM audio for tracks on a CD.
