SOLVED: How to display udp TV streams?
« on: December 19, 2018, 06:08:43 am »

So I've cut the cable, quite literaly, and my new ISP (Switzerland, Init7) is sending me internet and TV via FTTH.
The TV signal is sent by multicast udp.
There's an app for Apple TV, so they call Apple TV their settop box.
I have MC24 so why would I want Apple TV, right.

So for the upd multicast streams.
VLC is showing that just fine, MC24 isn't.
I've tried converting it to unicast using udpxy, still MC refuses.

There's only two threads when searching for udp on Interact, only one really applies, has no answers and probably is unresolved.

So how do I go about displaying those udp TV channels (I hardly ever do, but still would be nice) in MC24.
I have no problems installing conversion tools like udpxy, if that's what's needed. But what specifically is needed?
Or shoud udp be supported by MC?

Any help appreciated.
Thanks
Guido

And of course, after days of tinkering, on the one day you post on the forum is the same day it magically just works.
Even the multicast streams.

So nevermind and thanks for reading.

So as usual it did not just work magically.

Udpxy didn't help, so I tried another proxy iptv2rtsp-proxy.
And that did the trick, everything as it should be, even over WLAN.
Channel switching is painful with like 5 seconds, but I guess that was to be expected.

After that successful test I went back to udpxy just to make sure.
What fooled me was, after the opening of the udpxy stream failed MC just went to the ony item in now playing which was the iptv2rtsp-proxy stream.
And the same happened with the udp multicast stream.
And yes, it still would be great if MC could handle upd multicast.

TLDR;
If you have a udp multicast stream you need this proxy to get it going in MC:
https://sourceforge.net/p/iptv2rtsp-proxy/wiki/Home/

At least it works for me
