New user 3D help

robl45:
Hello,

I am testing this again, I think previously I tried out MC 22 or something like that.  Its been awhile now.  I cannot get 3d to work,  currently it will play 2d, but when I go to play 3d it tells me something is wrong with the audio which is bizarre.

My setup has been working flawlessly using mpc-BE with Madvr and lav filters for probably 2 years as external player from Kodi.  The other night I setup Kodi DS Player and it works fine too, but given that its no longer developed, I thought this might be the best long term solution.  I'm baffled as it uses the same components and yet will not work for 3d.    I have set the audio to either directsound default or to my receiver and still when I pick a 3d movie it says problem with audio even though audio is working fine with 2d.  I even copied the settings from my madvr directiory over to the jriver madvr to see if that would help and still no luck.

Does anyone have any idea?

Also, is there someplace I can go to see what buttons do what on the MCE remote with media center?  I've been searching but can't seem to find something that explains where I click.  I've found some type of menu while playing, but still haven't found something that lets me select subtitles at least not without having to right click the screen.

Thanks

You'll find other threads if you search. MC uses a private copy of madVR, so you need to set up 3D in there (I think you understand that based on your comments), but there is very little to change in madVR to make 3D work. Other than that you should use ROHQ (Red October High Quality), and select one of the "Quality Settings" that are templates for madVR, based on your hardware capabilities. See video Options.

Press the up arrow multiple times while playing a video to see all the menu options. MC Theatre View can be driven almost completely with the four arrow keys and the OK button.

MC uses the MCE commands as you would expect for WMC or any other media app, pretty much. It recognises all MCE commands by default, and doesn't need to learn those commands. Perhaps with some caveats. Take a look at "Options > Remote Control > Commands".

I don't know why you are getting the "Something went wrong with playback" message with 3D content, but usually that would mean that your output device isn't capable of playing the audio stream selected, which might be changing when you switch to 3D. Or maybe the 3D video you are testing with has some strange audio stream, or is using ATMOS?

3D works fine on my HTPC, described in my signature.

I did get 3d to play although I'm not sure what I did, but it just runs for maybe a minute before it appears that the queues drop out, maybe the settings are too high?  I set it for best performance.  I also don't get any audio with 3d, although 2d appears to be working fine.  I can try copying over the settings from the normal madvr again to the madvr in JRiver.

I recommend against that. In fact, I recommend that you set the JRiver version of madVR back to the defaults by running the "restore default settings.bat" batch file in the JRiver mad VR directory, "C:\Users\[UserID]\AppData\Roaming\J River\Media Center 24\Plugins\madvr", and then select the Quality Setting "Best Performance" again.

Then make sure no components of other media players are running in the background (Kodi etc.), and test again.

If you still have issues, come back and provide information about the PC you are using: CPU, GPU, memory specifically, but anything else special about it.

TheShoe:
i’ve never had 3D successfully work with any GPU other than nVidia.

intel integrated GPUs would partially work but eventually crash and often have weird artifacts during playback.

i had tested one AMD but it was an old GPU and it just didn’t work.

YMMV of course.    curious what GPU you have...
