Left Roon....Looking at JRiver ?
scol78:
I've had too many issues with Roon and now my subscription is up I'm looking here and have a couple of queries if any one could help.
Will JRiver see a usb connected 4TB HD on a Cambridge 851N ,i want to keep it connected directly ?
Will JRiver control the music stored on the HD from a imac mini as the remote control ?
JimH:
If the OS sees the drive, MC should. You could download and install MC and use the trial period to test.
Yes, MC can be used as a remote control for another copy of MC. There is a wiki topic on Remotes here:
https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Remotes

So JRiver will find my connected HD any where on the network ,am I correct.
I have tried to get jriver to let me have another trial period ,Because I had a play about with the trial a few months ago its not letting me in again

no, JRiver simply relies on the host operating system making a drive available so if that operating system can see that drive then you're ok, if not, it won't.
if you want the drive to stay connected to the 851n then I very much doubt it will see it.

So I would have to connect the HD to the Mac running jriver ?
This is one of the reasons I left Roon.
When the HD is connected directly to the CA 851,the music sounds so much better, rather than it being carried through the network.
I have used the Cambridge app to prove this, which controls the files on the HD.Its just its a very bad app
