License Problems
« on: January 25, 2019, 06:24:00 pm »

We've begun issuing MC25 licenses now.  MC25 isn't available yet. Now available.  Early builds will be available on the forum about April 1 and we will let you know.  In the meantime, the license will work with recent builds of MC24.

If you purchased a new license or an upgrade license after December 14, you received an MC25 license.

If you have any questions, please ask here.  Please read this first:

Hi ,
I have installed the new MC25 master license, I still see the Help-Registration info showing as Jrivr Media Center 24 (registered windows license).
I have double checked by clicking on reset /restore license and re-entering the registration code followed by installing the new restore key.
The license info in JRiver is still not updated to 25 Master.
Please let me know if there is anything else that I need to do.

Thank you

I have just purchased a Windows license for MC 25. Jim's post above states that this license will work with recent builds of MC 24, but when I tried to update my current MC 24 installation I got an 'Your license file is for a different product' error message.

I was running the 'Stable (recommended)' version of MC 24, so I tried updating to the 'Latest (may be less stable)' version, but this made no difference. I still get that error message.

Download MC24 from the Download Page here, install it and then restore.

As stated in my previous post, I had already updated my copy of MC 24 this morning (using the Check for Updates option within the program), but I did it again via the Download Page.

Not surprisingly, it made no difference. I still get the 'Your license file is for a different product' error when I run the .mjr file.

Problem now solved.

I assumed that running the .mjr file I was sent was the correct procedure, but it actually needs you to use the Restore process.

Download MC24 from the Download Page here, install it and then restore.

I upgraded to MC 25 master license on 28 January, and then I installed MC24 to my Windows 10 PC the next day. I also got the “Your license file is for a different product” error when I run the .mrj file. I then followed your advice and restore the license within MC 24. It worked but after that, I received an email saying that I have used up 1 restore, and I have 9 restores remaining at this time. This caught me by surprise as I thought that this would not happen as I restored the license within the 14 days limit. So if I encounter similar problems in future I could quickly use up all the restore quota.

JimH is very good at resetting your restores if you do use your quota up - so I wouldn't worry unduly about that.

Hi,
I purchased and received Master key for Version 25, but ran into 'Your license file is for a different product' error during installation. I'm currently running Version 24 (Master).  I mistakenly submitted an old Windows Version 14 key during the purchase, instead of using the current version 24 master key.

How can I rectify this?

Thanks.

Download and install the latest build of MC24.  Only recent builds will work with an MC25 license.

I have 24.0.78 installed and am trying to install the licence for 25 (Mac). When I go through the process of restoring the licence, I get a message telling me it has been successfully restored however, vs 25 remains unlicensed. Library and all connections etc are copied across - just can't get it licenced!

Try running MC25 first and restoring from the small window that pops up.  It's possible that an older version of MC is installing the license.  That won't work.

Still no joy with installing. I've now exhausted all my 'restores' for MC24 having tried to install 25 on 2 different machines. Each time I get the same problem. I'm not getting a restore screen, the application just starts going through it's setup process. If I click into Help - Install Licence, and paste in my licence, I get 'Your licence file is not valid for Media Centre'.

There have been a couple of times where I have had a restore option, however I get an invalid licence message again.
I've tried this on two machines now so I'm sure it's user error of some sort however, I've no restores left and not much more patience!  ?

You have an MC25 for Mac license that also works with the latest build of MC24 (24.0.78).

It won't work with Windows.

You haven't used any restores.  I checked.  Maybe you're trying to use the Install Key.  It only works for 14 days.  Then you must restore.  Here's how it works:

Thank you for you reply. I'm not using windows. I'm using a Mac.
So. I opened my download of MC25
I opened Help/Install Licence - copied and pasted my licence number that I received when I purchased in Jan 2019
I receive a message Your Licence File is not Valid for Media Centre. Do you wish to Purchase an upgrade.

I open Chrome
I go to the Restore Page
I enter my Licence file that I received when I purchased in Jan 2019 (Starts SSSU6)
I click restore. I get a message saying the lcience has successfully been installed on my computer.
A file MediaCentre Mac 43228.mjr downloads to my Downloads folder.
I click on that.
I get  Your Licence file is Not valid. Do you wish to purchase an Upgrade.

Very happy to have this picked apart however, for the life of me I can not isolate if I'm doing something wrong.

That license isn't correct.  It may be a Paypal number, but it's not your license.  Yours begins with T6PF.  I just re-sent it.

That'll be it then! I was taking that licence info from the email I received after purchasing in Jan - there was never a licence for 25.
Whatever - it's done now so thank you for you patience. :)

Hi, I have recently upgraded to MC25 however Windows asks me to give grant permission for the MC25.exe to make changes to my computer every time the app is started.  I have tried uninstalling and reinstalled, deleting old MC22-24 folders and the library settings folder but have been unable to fix the issue.   I am running windows 10.  Please post a solution or release a patch.  Thx.

You mean it prompts you to start Media Center 25 as an administrator?

It ask comes up with the User Account Control window and ask 'Do you want to allow the app to make change to your device?' every time on startup.  I have tried running the MC25.exe file as ''an administrator'' using file properties but it hasn't fix the problem.

That should happen just once.  You may have found a Windows problem or a problem with antivirus settings.

You don't run a registry cleaner do you?

No, i don't run a registry cleaner on my media PC.  Also anti virus on media PC is windows defender .  Interestingly the ''user account window'' doesn't keep reappearing on my desktop PC.  One difference between the computers is that my media PC has had several MC upgrades.

Is it possible that you're running the install file that you downloaded, and not the program itself?

I am running from MC25 using the desktop shortcut which is created during the install process.  Plus is doesn't repeat any of the other install steps.  Check firewall and MC21 through to MC25 have full access permission, even through i have uninstalled MC21-24.

I should also point out i had the same issue with MC24.  Found found this old forum post but couldn't fix the issue (https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=94373.0).  I don't post on the forums as i thought a clean install with MC25 would resolve the issue.

Thanks for the replies JimH.  I fixed the issue re-following ~OHM~ instructions from the old ''User Account Control (UAC)'' forum post.  Still not sure why this issue carried forward after a new install through.

Hi Jim,

Can I get a retrospective licence code for MC23?

I have licences for 18/19 (windows), 20/21 (multi platform) and 24/25 (windows). I possibly had a licence for 17 as well. Long time ago!

But the 23 installer seems to be the last to work with Windows 7 on my Shuttle XPC.

We don't issue old licenses.

Your MC24 license should work with the last build of MC23.

Antivirus can cause installation problems.

Please post details in a new thread.

I've just bought a new license - works like a charm.
Is there a way to receive/download a bill (or what's it called) for that purchase?

Hello,
I'm running the docker version on my QNAP NAS within Container Station.
Whenever I need to update the OS on my NAS and re-start it, the container also needs to re-start.
Which means I need to re-enter my licence key.
This is not a problem...but I have now zero restores left!

So how do I get more restores?  Can someone at JRiver revise the number I have used up?

Regards,

Andrew

Hi, I have a question regarding my license for MC25.
I´m selling now my old computer including MC25 to a friend. This MC25 is registered under my own license.
My friend does have his own license.

Is it possible to change my license to my friend´s one without reinstalling MC25?

Like I said above, Windows XP isn't supported anymore and hasn't been supported for at least a year if not more now.

If you're seriously still running Windows XP, I would *highly* suggest looking into upgrading to a newer Windows OS (at least Windows 8.1, since Windows 7 is going to die in a few months) or switching to a Linux distro or even just straight up replacing PCs running Windows XP. Running Windows XP on a PC that's connected to the internet is a serious security risk, since Windows XP doesn't get security updates anymore. I really can't stress this enough, to stop using Windows XP in this day and age.

EDIT: Just tried the 32-bit version of Media Center 25.0.113 on an old Windows XP VM install, and as expected MC25's installer won't work as it will display the aforementioned error after MC25's installer is finished extracting. My best guess is the installer requires something in Windows 7 or newer at this point and time (which would make sense). Thus, I wouldn't expect MC25 to work on Windows XP anymore though.

Here's a screenshot of the error when running the 32-bit MC25 installer on Windows XP:

Windows XP has indeed not been supported ever since MC24 already, which was already a few years after Microsoft officially ended its support.
And "not supported" in this case does mean that it quite simply won't run anymore on it at all, since we made use of newer features.
