Suggestion for MC25 about file icon in windows explorer
« on: March 09, 2019, 03:14:50 am »

Good morning.
I noticed that mc 24 set same icon for all of the files in windows folders.

I suggest that mc25 set a different icon for file type to better recognize file type.
I need this because i use windows folder to play my files and finding .m3u for playing a playslist is a pain.
A simple .mp3 .m3u in the lower right will do the job

I tryed to use external programs to change icon of .m3u but if i change .m3u icon they also change .mp3 icon!!
Waiting for reply.
Thanks

You can go to Windows 'folder options' and enable the showing of file extensions in the filenames of the display window. Or use a detailed list view that shows the extension column all the time. Those are the easiest solutions in most cases.

There is also a free program called FilesTypesMan (File Types Manager) which I use all the time to replace windows standard icons. This is a bit more time consuming as you'd have to find replacements on the web for icon image types to suit your taste. And sometimes upon reinstalling software, the icon associations and images can revert back. Fewer programs now have different contrasting colored icons for different file types than years before. I have no idea why this is the case. Lack of creativity? No graphics designer on board? Laziness?

Apart from the icons, I think the Windows/File Explorer file type descriptions are more of a problem, a very old one. I hope you can address this in MC25, it shouldn't be much trouble hopefully.
