JRemote on IOS and CarPlay
« on: January 19, 2025, 08:51:50 am »

Hi. I would like to run a JRiver server in my car, that connects to CarPlay and will load and play a chosen playlist. It nearly works. I can have JRiver start when the car starts, and start playing my chosen playlist- but to the Player zone, which is not connected to CarPlay. I can ask IOS automation to start JRemote, which does connect to CarPlay, and plays from the JRiver server, but playing to “this device”. I cannot choose the playlist to start, as the server (JRiver) does not “see” this device - it is not a zone. It seems like a fairly common requirement- has anyone figured out a way to do this?  Thanks, Duncan.

Not sure why you would run a server in your car

I use both mo4media and JRemote to connect to my Media Center server running in my house and stream to my iPhone which is connected via CarPlay.

I tend to use play lists because JRemote and mo4media accessing all my artists takes a while to load, and Play Lists are pretty fast to load.

Anyway - seems like that is what you want to do, but not sure from your description....

Thanks for your reply. I presume that you have to choose the playlist that you start with via the IOS app. I would rather that a default playlist was chosen, but I can’t find a way of doing that. BTW, I have a server in the car, as all my music is flac, and I can’t rely upon a good phone signal to stream that when I am driving. Duncan

Yes - have to choose a playlist.

As for FLAC, I guess it depends on the quality of your service and your location.  All my music is flac and generally not a problem to stream it.   Curious your server - never thought about doing that...  Since JRemote can't download/store files locally (another feature request), if streaming is problematic for you, then yeah, a server would be needed.

I fly a lot and it's also annoying that I can't have it play files I download to my iPad/iPhone.
