CD-Writer not recognized

I guess, this one should be addressed to John T:
After installing Win2K on an blank disk, an old guy was back: "CD-Writer not recognized".
It was working before, but I used a newer version (101). Since the old installation was still there, I used the old CDWriter.ocx (Vers. 1.0.0.37) to replace the newer one (1.0.0.45) an the Writer is ok! What's wrong?
