Hi there,

any chances of JRiver considering to work on an AppleTV app?

I personally would have my doubts, since Apple likes to lock down their mobile and TV ecosystems.

Thanks. What do you mean by "lock down"?

I also would like to have a statement by JRiver on the initial question.

Apple is difficult / impossible to support when it concerns devices.

Thanks Jim. So I read "there will be no MC AppleTV", correct?

Nothing is keeping MC off of AppleTV other than the lack of an app for it. It is not 'locked down' at all, someone just needs to write the app for it and it doesn't have to be JRiver. A single app would work with AppleTV, iPhone, and iPad and if written properly could cache content offline as well.

I totally agree with BartMan01 comment. Infuse App is an example to get it done to a certain extend.

I have the Apple TV 4K and I have also the Infuse App and integrated it with my MC based media server. I have not spend much effort and time in optimizing Infuse.

I have also parallel to the ATV an MC based Video Renderer in my Living room. Currently the ATV would not replace my MC based video renderer (Audio is played directly from MC server via Devialet AIR to my Devialet). What are the key differences:

- 29i BD mkv content is difficult to play through the ATV (the picture is kind of nervous) - and I have plenty of 29i content
- in all music concerts (29i content) I have, the movement of actors is significant slowed down in ATV compared to RO HQ (simply perfect)
- 23p works
- mp4 is also not a problem for movies
- a key disadvantage of using the ATV is that audio has to go through HDMI (AQ Carbon) to the TV and then via optical to my Devialet -> the sound quality of using MC as a video renderer and using Devialet Air as audio protocol is so much better regarding sound quality (richness, details, 3D dimension)
- it is not transparent in ATV which bit depth and sample frequency are processed
- the views concept in MC is much, much better then the folder concept used by Infuse
- The ATV UI with the remote is from a UX PoV top notch (also compared to my LG SMART TV) - I use the amazon prime app only from my ATV
- ATV has no DSP

-> but the ATV is not so far away compared to my MC based video renderer! And the video renderer cost 4 x the price of the ATV.

How did you integrate Infuse with MC?

i have used infuse as well.   it can only see MC via DLNA, of which there are numerous solutions for any iDevice.   that is the inly integration such as it is with MC

outside of that, infuse will mount smb shares so you could also just use the same shares you likely have set up for MC.

one drawback is that  infuse is video only.  on the plus side, it supports about every format you can throw at it even including dts-ma, truehd, mkv, mp4, and so on...

it will even read bluray folder rips and play the longest title or give you title menus, but not bluray menus sadly....

Emby and Plex have Apple TV Apps for video and audio.   Infuse is video only.

But I can DLNA right to the TV speakers....so I get it another way.

Would be nice to have a JRiver App, though.

I have many media related apps on my apple tv......Infuse, Emby, Plex, & Channels DVR.   And they work fine.

Hi all

late to the thread, been using JRiver MC for music only close to 20 years now and in parallel using plex for many years as well for video only

I do own 4 Apple TVs across the houses and this thread peaked my interest in maybe finally using MC to take over my video library as well..

I tried infuse to add the DLNA MC as a source but with no real success, any details on how you guys did that?

any other options other than infuse that maybe works better with MC?

thx!

Not sure about using Infuse with a DLNA connection, but I recently started using it on my AppleTV because I was so frustrated with the TV's DLNA implementation (an old Panasonic).

Regardless, I keep using MC to manage/rename, etc. all my library files and do playback from the MC computer and its clients.

I simply point the Infuse app on my AppleTV to the SMB share(s) that MC imports from. As long as I don't expect to do any file-level management with Infuse, it's been working pretty well for me. Infuse has certainly been an upgrade from any of the actual DLNA implementations I've tried.

Good luck!
