Three icons in dock?

New behavior. When I fire up MC 25 on my Mac laptop, I get THREE icons in my taskbar. All of them say Media Center 25.

When I shut it down, all three icons remain. Clicking on ANY of them starts MC 25.

What's going on? Anything I can do to not have multiple icons in the task bar?

Did you check this: https://www.macworld.com/article/3284519/article.html ?

enazarko:
Yes. That's not my concern. My concern is, opening JRiver opens TWO icons in the dock. If I close it, both icons remain. If I open it again, I'll get a third icon.

(Note this is an update to the original behavior I reported of three icons... I forgot that I'd closed JRiver, then started it again later...)

I have no problem with JRiver showing up in the dock if I use it. I DO have a problem if it always puts TWO icons there, and if, with later use, it adds more icons.

I had zero icons for JRiver in the dock. I opened it just now, and here's what's in the dock. They both say Media Center 25 if you hover over them. They BOTH remain when I close JRiver. Clicking on either of them opens JRiver.

This is brand new behavior. I've used JRiver 24 on this laptop for almost a year. Never saw this.

EDIT: to show the behavior, I closed JRiver, didn't remove the icons from the doc. Started JRiver again, and now there are THREE icons in the doc - the one active one, plus the two that were there before.

Haven't seen this, but it sounds like the recent apps feature in Mojave is enabled. Only one icon shows in my dock after disabling that feature. Having the "Minimize windows into application icon" option checked in macOS' dock settings would likely help too.

enazarko:
I'm not keen on disabling the "recent apps" feature since it's worked just fine all this time with all other apps, and with JRiver 24. I appreciate that your defaults keep the problem from happening, but since JRiver 25 is the only app that does this on my machine, and 24 didn't, makes me resistant to modifying my environment just to deal with the behavior of one app. The only thing changed on my laptop since the last time I used JRiver 24 is uninstalling JRiver 24 and installing JRiver 25.

The total icons from opening JRiver 25 stops at 3 icons, since that's the size of the "recent apps" space on my dock. If you open JRiver 25 again, the last of the three icons disappears, and is replaced by another JRiver 25 icon. The dot that says "this is the application running" is ALWAYS on the first icon.
