Theater View Request - TV Show Theme Music
« on: February 13, 2019, 11:42:44 am »

Would be neat to have TV Show Theme music (optionally) play when a TV Show is selected as well as browsing the series/episodes for a TV Show.

Plex/Emby both do this; I think Kodi does or is likely a plug-in.

Not about being at parity with them; just happen to find it a nice little feature.

Could we assume you have the music?

fair question.  plex (i think) uses their own database and users can submit to it.  have to believe this does not run afoul of licensing else plex would not offer it.

but to answer your question, and it would provide addtl flexibility to the end user,

yes: assume the end user must provide it.  which takes JRiver out of any licensing concerns

perhaps a new tag on a series where one can select an audio file to play at lower (think background music) volume when browsing a series or season

I second this, but for theme videos in particular.  Trying to get this done in Kodi is a monumental pain in the neck, and just not worth it.  I have this setup and emby and windows media center and it would be REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY GREAT if JRiver supported playback of these videos in the background.  Users could then use Plex or Emby to facilitate downloading all of the necessary files.  I think JRiver, Emby, and Plex all have the same legal risk appetite so I doubt your enabling piracy.  At one point in time, I had JRiver setup with a video backdrop so I'm sure there aren't any technical issues preventing it.  Here is a screen capture to give you a better idea about how the files are named and stored in their respective folder structures.

I had this idea today and did a search to see if it had ever come up before, turns out it has so rather than start a new thread I figured I'd bump this one.

I think this would be a very nice addition.  I'd be fine with MC not collecting the theme songs (although that would be great, I could see it being problematic with licensing/copyrights, etc.).  But if MC sees a specific file, lets say theme.mp3, in the TV show folder it plays it when viewing the show in theater view.  This is something Plex does that I find very cool, it's a nice little touch.

Also, Mediaelch can be used to fetch theme songs.
