Dsd playback
« on: April 17, 2019, 04:30:32 am »

Hi all.
Could you help me on this.

My library contains DSD and PCM, 192. 88 etc.

My dac is irdac 2 , which plays back dsd 64 and 128 in native form.

Now when I select options for driver , I select Arcam ..,, Asio dsd bitstreaming.
Now in dsp I select native chip,  2 times native. Ect. So now when I play dsd I can see that it’s streaming asio native,  no processing .

So far so good,   Now if I try to play a pcm file ,with the same settings it stutters.

If I go back into dsp and in.   Select chip type. And use non     Its plays pcm fine. Ans when I then play dsd. It tells me that. Playing dsd asio streaming. No changes made.
I thought that the chip type had to be selected for native dsd?

Not sure what’s going on.
Any ideas.?

I don't know what you mean by "chip type" but it sounds like you're talking about Output Encoding in DSP Studio.
Output Encoding converts PCM to DSD during playback, and is resource-intensive.

Disable it to output PCM as PCM.
And use bit-streaming to output DSD as DSD.

Hi there,  you will have to excuse me, I am not all that familiar.

If I play dsd tracks, I select  output encoding to 2xdsd in native format.

I also in options select Arcam asio driver,  bit steaming yes dsd.

That all works fine, jriver tells me playing dsd native. No changes being made.

Now I i add a pcm track like 192 or 88Kz. It judderes really bad.

so what I have to do is go back to output format and set output encoding to none,
So now when I play a pcm it plays fine. JRiver tells me. Playing ....88Kz no changes being made.
So it seems pcm will not play right if output is set to

Native format2 or 4 times native.

Which is a pain. Because I have to keep changing settings.

Strange thing is. When encoding is off jriver still informs me dsd is bitstreaming dsd no changes being made.

Do not enable output encoding at all.

BITSTREAMING is for DSD playback.
Encoding is for CONVERTING to DSD.

If you use encoding with DSD files you have DSD>PCM>DSD conversions.
