NVIDIA stops support for 3D from 430 driver
TheShoe:
i decided to test top-and-bottom this time with the latest nVidia drivers and I think it looks quite a bit better than SBS - as good as frame packed I think; have to test more - The Hobbit and the Good Dinosaur are two exceptional 3D Movies. Good enough in fact I'll stick with them I think and just take that extra step of pushing the "3D" button on the remote to toggle the LG 3D feature.
I did have to dial back the upscaling madvr settings as it was punishing my GPU (1080Ti).
Interestingly 3D enabled this way on the LG creates a kind of a cool effect on the Windows desktop and Media Center in its standard view: all my movies are stacks (custom display) and the stacks themselves now look 3D and have depth to them.
One can drive themselves nutty with all these settings. Glad they are there; maybe I should actually watch something ;)

For those wondering...
I've tried the bringback3dv.exe dll auto patch for later drivers and it does what it says on the tin.
framepacking works again and 3dTV play shows in the Nvidia control panel.
HOWEVER.... MadVR doesnt seem to be able to hook into the drivers and autoswitch to framepacking correctly anymore so it's not really a solution as MadVR will only output SBS in half rez. (even with all the proper settings, - Auto 3D 2d off 3d on rendering etc)
With 3d Stereoscopic checked in Nvidia control panel the projector switches correctly to 3D FP but shows as 3D SBS. With Stereoscopic turned off, the projector stays in 2D 24p and displays 3D SBS.
So it's very close to working but no cigar...
So for those that want to play 3D games you can atleast still get them to work for now, however looks like 3D SBS or 3D TB is the best we can do for now with MadVR unless you stay on a much older driver (425.31)

TheShoe:
Thanks for the link. I was reading over in the nVidia forums about various driver re-packagaes to bring back 3D.
on a 4K TV at least, we can get full 1080p/eye using SBS or OU (top and bottom) 3D instead of losing half the resolution.
tij:
Use Over/Under ... that way MC menus/control are still usable (one eye will see it)
SBS make those unusable if you wearing 3D glasses
For LG 4K OLED ... Over/Under is also preferable as it “interlace” each line for right/left eye (and those interlace line run horizontal)
TheShoe:
yes - exactly what my testing revealed and why i decided to go with latest drivers (for games) since i could keep full res with OU 3D. downside is having to enable 3D from the remote but i can manage that :)
i did discover with my LG OLED 2016 model that once i enable 3D manually, i can toggle it on and off with a button. however from that point until i reboot the TV, frame packed will no longer auto switch the TV into 3D. this is not Media Center, but i suspect a bug in the TV’s firmware.
