NVIDIA stops support for 3D from 430 driver
RD James:
Fortunately for media this is not much of a setback if you have a 4K 3DTV, as side-by-side still results in a 1920x2160 image - so the source will be upscaled rather than downscaled as it was on a 1080p display.
This is a huge loss for anyone that likes playing 3D games though, as many games were only supported by 3D Vision rather than having a platform-agnostic side-by-side output.
And for me, gaming is what made 3D interesting. I really didn't care for 3D movies much, but 3D gaming was amazing.
VR looks like the next step for anyone interested in 3D, but it's expensive and there are a lot of compromises right now. It's also largely a solo activity rather than something which can be enjoyed as a group.

The most frustrating thing is that 3D was just starting to get really good with LG's 4K OLEDs.
The 4K resolution meant that while passive 3D still halved the output resolution, you still had enough resolution for the image to look good, while being much more comfortable to watch.
They were also double the brightness of any other 3DTV at the time, and that would only have improved with the current push for HDR and higher brightness displays.

Managed to get two LG OLED late 2017 (realized too slow that they stop doing 3D)
E6 and C6
both had small problems (one has slight screen burn
another stuck red pixel in corner
both problems not noticeable during playback
but it still eat at my heart)
still its amazing 3D (and HDR)
Like RD James said
pity they stop doing this as it was really awesome

Combing through nvidia forums indicate that nvidia aint gonna reverse their decision. So no 3D TV for future nvidia drivers starting from 430 ... they say they will keep updating 418 till next year (though i find 425 also support 3D TV)
Thought of jumping to AMD ... but after some googling it seems AMD hd3d feature (one that support 3d tv) been dead even longer
Nvidia forums suggested using dual boot - one for 3d with older nvidia driver ... and one for latest one ... Windows 10 pro was suggested as it can prevent force driver update through group policy, but that possibly could not last (MS is notorious for forcing updates on Windows 10) ... Windows 7 and even Windows 8.1 was suggested
So i thought ... LG OLED are 4k ... and MadVR supports 3D output in Top/Bottom ... so i set 3D content to output in 2160p23 with 3d set on Top/Bottom ... that way i dont loose any resolution of original picture ... since LG uses passive with alternating horizontal lines for each eye ... obviously this method looses halve vertical resolution if you using active 3D (or passive 3D on projector) ... but in my LG case this cause no loss in 3D picure quality and it still looks stunning
you need to make sure nvidia/Windows does not go into 3D mode (it causes my MC to crash) ... there is a setting in MadVR that controls that
PS. tried setting custom resolution in MadVR 3840x4320 ... but GPU did not accept that (i doubt tv will accept that too)
PSS. down side to this is ... my TV does not go into 3d mode automatically ... and 3d button on remote must be pressed to start 3d

The latest 4K PJ are still supporting 3D. I only have a dozen or so 3D-BD but will give it a try on Top/Bottom. As others have mentioned I'd expect no loss in visual resolution on 4K displays but expect that I'll have to manually select 3D on my JVC. The upside is that kicking the entire playback chain into FramePacked could be .... unpredictable sometimes.

i am ok with sticking with my current nvidia drivers until such time as they stop working with windows updates. that too i find little reason any longer to update. everything just plain works fine now. having windows 10 professional i can also stop the forced updates.
i have two 65 OLED Lg sets from 2016 that both support 3D. with over 100 3D movies i wanted a backup. my old Plasma TV also supports 3D. we love to watch 3D - have a crazy nu, er of passive glasses at this point too, from movies at the cinema. great place to grab kids-sized glasses.
i am considering a projector at some point though these LG oled TVs are so perfect i will just wait until both panels wear out. and they will. each only has about 2500 hours on the. after a couple years so plenty of life left.
the final nail in the coffin will be if madshi and or hendrik remove support. please dont :)

note that i have not tried full res SBS or TAB. does madvr output frame packed that way if the driver wont support it? in the end the TV should be rendering the same i think....
i can live with pushing a button on a remote to engage 3D
