Unmet dependencies: 'you have held broken packages'

(1/1)

Mark.G:
Trying to upgrade from MC22 to MC25 on Mint 17.2 Rafaela. Following the instructions here https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,120022.0.html I get through everything until the install step. I keep getting these errors:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 mediacenter25 : Depends: libasound2 (>= 1.0.28)
Depends: libuuid1 (>= 2.25) but 2.20.1-5.1ubuntu20.9 is to be installed
Depends: libstdc++6 (>= 4.9) but 4.8.4-2ubuntu1~14.04.4 is to be installed
Depends: libgtk-3-0 (>= 3.14) but 3.10.8~8+qiana is to be installed
Depends: libgomp1 (>= 4.9) but 4.8.4-2ubuntu1~14.04.4 is to be installed
Depends: libgstreamer1.0-0 (>= 1.4.4) but 1.2.4-0ubuntu1.1 is to be installed
Depends: libgstreamer-plugins-base1.0-0 (>= 1.4.4) but 1.2.4-1~ubuntu2.1 is to be installed

I've tried the suggested fix of sudo apt-get install -f but that just shows this and nothing is fixed:

Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 53 not upgraded.

No clue what to do now.  :(

Hendrik:
Mint 17 is from 2014, its probably too old for MC25. We're currently designing MC against Debian Jessie, which was released in 2015, so a bit newer then yours - but still plenty old to cover most systems, or so we thought!

You could upgrade to Mint 19, but be sure to know what you are doing. :)

Mark.G:
Just want to say I appreciate the response Hendrik. Yes, probably time to upgrade my version of Mint. Thankfully I only use this installation of MC to play from a remote library and I don't use the computer for much else. Easy enough to wipe clean and start over, I suppose. Thanks again.

Mark.G:
And now MC 25 is installed and playing music on Mint 19.1!  :D
