The decibel values are definitely based on the well established mathematical principles.  There's really no wiggle about what 6 dB means.

Contrary to many (lesser, imho) players, our volume slider in itself is logarithmic (well, at least from 20% to 100%, below 20% it ramps up), so that you can actually get some use out of the upper part of the slider. If it was linear, like you seem to be assuming, then the perceived volume difference between 100% and 50% would be very minimal, and most people would probably only use a tiny fraction of the slider - and having a hard time doing small adjustments to the volume as a result of it.

The number listed in the link are entirely accurate. At 50%, the volume is down by 25dB, or the digital signal multiplied by 0.0562. The advantage of this is that the perceived volume difference is linear throughout the range of the slider, and you can more precisely control your desired volume.
