Connecting a Phone to Equipment Using HDMI
« on: April 27, 2019, 11:10:57 am »

I found this:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_High-Definition_Link

It's called Mobile High-Definition Link.  It's a standard way to use micro USB on a phone to connect to a TV or receiver or any device with an HDMI input.  You need to use an MHL adaptor like this one:

The reason I was looking around for this kind of solution is that JRiver for Android makes the phone behave as a DLNA Renderer:

Note that phones need to support this, they would typically advertise this in the spec sheet. But its definitely a handy way to quickly get a movie onto a TV - if you have the cable with you.

I have always thought MHL was under rated but I'm guessing it's not as popular because it's not wireless.  Here is a link for those interested.  http://www.mhltech.org/consumer.aspx

I gave this a shot a few weeks back as a potential way to get gapless, hi-res, multi-channel audio into my world.
While I could get video and basic audio to work I failed with multi-channel and hi-res audio.
