MC stops responding after fast user switching

I'm running the MC in my account on my mac.  When my daughter switches to her account, MC stops responding to the remote and the music (on a DLNA device) stops playing.
I'm assuming this means that when my daughter switches to her account, the apps that I was running as myself get suspended.  As soon as I switch to my account, music immediately starts playing (without doing anything with the MC).  Is there a way to prevent this?
