Random star ratings on newly imported music

Once in a while, songs which I import into MC from my iTunes library show up with ratings of one or two stars. I never assign ratings; these just appear after import. The files themselves, which still live in my iTunes library, have no star ratings in their tags. MC somehow, apparently, randomly assigns these.

Does this ring a bell with anyone? Does anyone know how to stop this? Thanks.

MC 25.0.50, macOS 10.14.5.

The files probably already had the Popularimeter ratings tag filled in from wherever you acquired the file, which is ignored by iTunes.
