  • I love music and great audio!

I run portable installs of JRiver on three PCs at home.

This allows me to "image" (.zip) the application and all settings, and regress back if ever I want to. It's been enormously useful. I love portable mode!

However, I've never been able to uninstall VST(s) once they've been added to a portable installation.

If I do the prescribed DSP Studio > Manage Plug-ins... > Uninstall: nothing happens. If I then restart the application, the VST remains. Everything continues to work and there are no error messages. VSTs simply don't uninstall.

Is this a bug, or is there a special technique to uninstall VSTs for portable installs?

Thank you so much.

Further:

I experimented and figured out how to apparently "cleanse" a portable-install of JRiver MC of any particular VST, by editing one or both of the *.ini files; basically just removing all sections/references relating to the particular plugin from both INI (user and machine) files seems to do the trick.

Note that this is only a workaround for *portable* installs, due to VST uninstall apparently not working when it's a portable install scenario.

I can reproduce this.  I'm investigating now.

Wow cool. I feel like I'm hitting a lot of home runs with these VST-related topics!

Don't worry: Four (4) was all I had. ;)

Thanks so much again.

This turned into a pretty deep problem, but I think it will be solved next build.

The history:
Fixed: VST plugins could not be uninstalled from a portable install.

Thanks for the nudge :)

Sorry.  ::)

Something to do with rights, and/or the fact that the VST dll is located outside the install folder and typically under the protected \Program Files folder?

Maybe requiring the VST dll to be located in the portable install location? I’d get that (as a user) if that became a requirement. That said, that would only work for VSTs which don’t require anything else on the host system, e.g. a license. :(
