Will upgrading to version 25 allow me to convert ALL of the music I download on the new Apple Music system during my three-month free trial to MP3 files that I can save on an external hard drive without continuing to pay for Apple Music indefinitely? Bill

I would suspect Apple is wise enough to use DRM on such files, making conversions like that impossible... unless you break the DRM.

So... probably no.

I have been able to do it with other software like Sidify and TuneMobile but was wondering about JRiver because it would probably work better if it worked on their software.

Looks like Apple still uses FairPlay DRM (in the .m4p container) however MC can't "break" that DRM and as far as I know, MC can't play files with FairPlay DRM either (well, maybe with the 32-bit version of MC with the old version of QuickTime for Windows installed, but I wouldn't ever recommend installing that).

That said, discussing how to remove the FairPlay DRM here is likely not allowed, since it'd be considered piracy to remove DRM from files you don't legally own (since they're streamed/downloaded for offline use via Apple Music and not bought from the iTunes Store).

Bottom line:  Services which offer downloaded files that are normally streamed are not selling you music.  They are selling you a service and it ends when the service ends.

If you want to own music, buy it from a company/service that sells songs, not rents them.   Or buy CDs and rip them.  CDs are shockingly inexpensive now.  I regularly buy CDs for $1 to $4.  ...and I get full quality digital files from them after ripping.
