Behavior of MC25 & Mac dock
« on: August 07, 2019, 10:38:51 am »

Using MC 35 on Mojave OS.

New to mac.  New to JRiver MC although I knew about the product from Pono.

MC25 is creating 2X objects on dock at every start.

I cannot un-check the 'open at logon/startup' option on the dock objects.

General setting in MC25 are to do "nothing" at startup.

The multiple objects on the dock do not vanish upon 'quit' of MC25.

I have removed the application and re-installed from dmg and this behavior still persists.

I plan on using this Mac Mini as a 'headless' server and I can't go forward with that until I find/get this issue fixed.

Surely something is 'wrong' in the behaviour.

I have searched for solution to this issue, but data is scant on the subject.

Any assistance is appreciated.

It's probably related to this and the new macOS Mojave recent apps feature: https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,120005.0.html

I didn't know about the 'Recent Apps' feature.  I think you are on the right track.

What's odd is that even if I put a MC object on the dock, the app is STILL putting another object in 'Recent Apps' which does seem to violate the principle/design as cited in the first link on the subject.

Will try turning off the 'Recent Apps' feature tonight.  All I need is to prevent the unwanted accumulation of these icons in the 'Recent Apps' region.  The fact that multiple copies of the same objects accumulate there seems to betray something wrong between MC25 and Mac OS.  Hard to spin any rational reason for that.

Thanks for the reply.  My needs are so simple for this machine and I've already spent whole day flac converting obscure CD's, scanning cover art, etc.

I had the same thing happen when I got a Mac with "recent apps".  I turned it off and all the extra MC icons went away for good.

Just to follow up, I checked the settings when I got home and the "Recent Apps" option was already unchecked.  I went thru several shutdown/restart cycles and found that the abnormal multiple objects syndrome was gone.

The fairies must have fixed it for me while I was at work.  I'll take it.

Got startup of MC25 config'd in the app to start when the Mac Mini boots and display the Audio Library.  A few more shutdown/restarts to verify all is good.

I'm on to the next level with remote devices to MC25 Mac Mini server.  All is excellent for now.

Thank you Brian for aiding in my understanding.

MC25 does do something unusual in the dock, and it has nothing to do with recent applications.

I'm not sure what all those spawned instances are. The Activity Monitor only showed 1 instance of MC25.

MC uses different/multiple processes for auto-import and other things, if I recall correctly.

It's normal to see 2 or 3 MC icons in the dock, BRIEFLY, on startup.  As AD said, these are auto import processes running to check your various directories that are being monitored.

If this goes away in the first minute or so of running MC, then it's exactly what I've been seeing on the last 5 versions of MC for Mac.  :)

I'm sure that it is a process spawned to do some background stuff.  However, lots of Mac apps do similar things, and they don't usually add icons to the dock when they do.

Since my library is relatively new, it makes sense for more background processing to be required.

I'm not especially concerned by it, but it is kinda annoying.
