No subwoofer

I must have a setting wrong somewhere.   I'm outputting from the Raspi via HDMI to a Marantz A/V receiver.   

Sometimes I get no audio and the sound comes out of the TV....I changed the AVR setup to AVR only and it comes from the receiver now but there is no subwoofer.  I have the default JRiver settings for subwoofer. 

How do I fix this?

Are you outputting 5.1 or letting your receiver upmix?

It was my receiver.......I think my new receiver needs a replacement

The RPi can only output 2 channels through hdmi.

Only two channels?  Really? 

It turned out it was my boo boo.   I had base set at LFE and it should be LFE+MAIN.
