FEATURE REQUEST: Make analyzer channel colors unique
« on: September 01, 2019, 05:47:11 pm »

Can JRiver please make the colors used per channel in the analyzer display to be unique?

Currently the colors repeat themselves.  Only 6 colors are used, which seems fine for 2 or 5 channel audio.  But Blu-Rays have 8 channels. So the last three channels, RR, SL, & SR get reused colors and cannot be distinguished from LEFT, RIGHT, and VOLUME.

This is bad.  When you're trying to find out which channel is causing clipping (or clip protection) or is just too high, you can't distinguish, unless you keep switching back and forth muting channels in room correction.  There should be no need for that.  This has been broken for years.

This is so simple to fix, just change 3 color codes.

Attached is the pic of how it looks with 8-channel playback.

Could this please be addressed?   Thanks!

Seems reasonable.

While you're at it, can you match the buffer applied to the DAC so the analyzer syncs with the sound?

Thanks Matt, that would be awesome if you fixed that.

While you're in there, what about making it so we can show/hide individual channels in the analyzer by clicking on them in the header?  Would make it easier to focus on what you want to see when it's moving...

A few other useful small tweaks

- either make the header bar wrap the text, make it scrollable or reduce the length of the labels (when you have lots of channels, you can't see the details because the text is invisible unless you are able to make a v v v wide window), e.g. change channel name to number and get rid of dB suffix
- label the ticks so you can easily see what the level is
- make the dB range adjustable like the freq range

Coming next build:
Changed: Made all the colors discrete for 7.1 playback in Analyzer (instead of looping previous colors).
