Strange View Behavior
« on: October 12, 2019, 10:56:44 am »

In order to keep my classical music sub-library sane I choose the Composer also to be the Artist (if it's the only one on an album) and if there is a single main performer that will be the Album Artist, otherwise the Composer is also the Album Artist. Now when I choose the Artist, say Bach, in the panes view only the albums where Bach is also the Album Artist show up, even though Bach is the Artist in all Albums where Bach is the only Composer.
In other words, some albums do not show up in pane view with a selected Artist dependent on what the Album Artist is (even though the selected Artist name is also entered as the Artist in those missing albums). Is this a bug?

Is this a bug?

Highly unlikely.

It will be the way you are using metadata and how your Views are set up. For a start, you have too many if's even in your description above. You need consistency in the way you use metadata and create Views.

My advice: Use the Composer field for the Composer, and build Views that use that field correctly. At least then what you see will make more sense.

But I'm no expert on the use of MC for classical music. There are discussions on handling classical music on the forum. Have you read them?

I’d expect to see all albums in which  all the tracks have “Bach” in the Artist field when I select “Bach” in the Artist pane. Is that not reasonable?

If you have the View set up correctly, yes.

Perhaps share the View definition. This is a normal Panes View, correct? Or a Category View in the Navigation pane?

Or try the "Advanced > Filter in both directions" setting if it looks like it should work, but doesn't.
