Dont know if i am the only who wants this but i think a good idea would be a new core comand (or keyboard shortcut) to switch audio out device.

For example to change between hdmi, usb or any other installed audio device (same like them which showed in option---> audio menu).

Major:

1. A better Android application (personally, I like the layout of Rocket Player) with a 10-foot interface

2. Ability to perform file transfers while connected as a Library Server/Client (e.g. push to client and pull from server)
Done

3. Ability to apply RM&C rules to a playlist/smartlist using MCC/MCWS

Minor:

1. On the "Finished" handheld sync action window, please include a link to go back to the sync status page for that device
Good idea  Done

Screen and or in-line recorder.

I know I've touch on this topic as a post on MC25 but never got anything definitive as to why or why not. I know that we had a in-line recorder in MC16 but it was dropped and I know that you could do a video record from screen captures. So is this something feasible or are there too many obstacles?

Hi there,

I would mind purchasing an update again if you would add:

- Audio DSP via DLNA -> so that the audio in a DLNA stream can be volume optimized, compressed, equalized etc.
- Video effects for DLNA -> contrast, brightness, saturation, CLUT looks...
- hardware accelerated realtime transcoding (Intel Quick Sync and NVidia NVENC) via DLNA and plain Media Network for x264 and x265(!)
+ fine control over transcoding bit rates and quality so that low network bandwidth clients also work

DLNA is useful for TV-sets... Like to have more control here...

Thanks :)

My thoughts in order of preference:

  • More robust Theater View customization.  Better control over vertical and horizontal spaces (location and sizing).  A "WYSIWYG" editor would be a dream but not entirely necessary
  • [Improve Server/Client operations.  Allow full access and manipulation of library from client with access control.  Allow ripping of material to the library from client computers without relying on Auto-Import on MC Server after the fact
Ripping might be possible.

  • [More seamless utilization of media scrapers (Discogs, AMG, MusicBrains)  Workflows now require the use of numerous external scrapers (MCUtils, MediaElch, Picard, MCRatings and others.  Often these scrapers return values to non-orthogonal tags that require manual manipulation before then work well together.  A lot of this is at the mercy of the individual taggers API but there is a lot of commonality that is not taken advantage of in MC.  I feel the goal here should be the ability to select files in MC and select a menu function and have the files tagged in one step.  The built-in tagger in MC is a nice first step, but it leaves a lot of media information on the table that can be scraped from TVdb, IMdb, MB, TMdb (and others?)
To be considered

  • [More robust documentation to allow novice or first time users to take the product out of the box and produce a fairly sharp looking Standard and Theater view.  As others have said, most of this documentation exists in other places but the methods of finding this information are cumbersome.  A lot of the documentation is outdated and there is currently no mechanism to update documentation as features improve or are changed (eliminated?).
  • Creation of a common, standard font set that takes into consideration ToolTip01.ttf, stars.ttf, the numerous publisher, network, film studio and rating logos.  Perhaps make this a living file that  registered users can manipulate by adding and removing their own logos, fonts and so on?  I know this ability exists separately apart from MC but it is cumbersome, disjoint and requires a fair amount of knowledge/skill that not all users will have.  Distributions of MC should include a basic version of the font to include the "most common" logos and graphic items

I'll be upgrading this time around... (EDIT - have just upgraded).

a) When I'm connected to my server in Media Center 23, accessing media files via UNC file path JRiver starts OK.
b) If the server is offline, then Media Center takes ages to start up, seems to be waiting for a timeout as the UNC path is unavailable.
Try to improve

I'd like to get (b) sorted, how about a lazy load?

Thanks..

My biggest feature request is how a "backup" does not include ALL key pieces of data - like the thumbnail databases.
To be considered

I finally figured out how to restore mine for a reinstall - but it took a lot of research and I managing to avoid the usual 6-10 hour CPU fest as MC tries to rebuild everything from scratch.

And before someone gets in the "size" of the backup comment (Thumbnails are too big to backup) - I am rocking a 100,000 tracks with embedded artwork in each file and the thumbnail DB was 310MB - this is not big by any stretch.

I love the way MC's backups can be restored and bring a new install right back to a point in time - but this thumbnail thing is a real PITA. Probably would not care of the actual thumbnail building process was fast and efficient but it grinds the CPU way too much and can take hours to rebuild the DB. I am willing to accept "bigger" backups (Maybe make backing up the thumbnails a checkable option?) in exchange for the valuable time this thumbnail building takes.

My second request is to have MC remember the exact Tab settings when switching libraries. I finally managed to solve this by saving several View states - but there is no good reason why MC should open a saved library a default tab state where the JRiver Home page is my Start page. Unless of course no tabs or changes have ever been made to the library.
Consider

Looking forward to v26

Continued success!

Cheers!

Particles!  Please fix the problem where the file references re-name themselves!

This happens when creating particles from scratch or using Swag Of Tools.  After doing a lot of work and creating the particles, they become useless as somehow JRiver messed up their references.  Gotta keep retrying until it magically works.  Gets very frustrating.
Take a look

I LOVE using Particles on concert videos.  Please fix this bug in the next release.  Would really appreciate it!

On the simple side of things you really need to ensure that on fresh installs of JRiver the 'I'm going to search your computer and bring all sorts of unwanted stuff into your library' is replaced by a nice big popup asking if you want that to happen!

Absinthe's list is excellent.

I'd like to add a simple one: fix the theater view scrolling so it's smooth like it used to be.

See this thread: https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,122403.msg848303.html#msg848303

I narrowed it way down so you can see exactly where things went wrong.

Another small one: an option (either GUI or by editing a skin file) to disable theater view's annoying cycling/slideshow of theme background images (I mean local images, NOT online slideshow) so that it comports with what Matt previously described as the correct behavior.

See what Matt says in this thread: (MC no longer behaves that way, and it's annoying)

I agree that Absinthe's post hits most of the notes that I'd like to see hit.  I disagree on that last point though.  Fonts were great but now that we have image support, I'd stick to images over fonts. They are much more user friendly.  But I do agree that there should be a common library but of images not a font.

The only thing I'd add, but it doesn't sound like you all are interested, is native Amazon Echo support.

Id be happy either way; however, the <img src> lines do not have sufficient mobility to center logo's with the text most of the time.  I constantly find myself editing PNG files removing uneven spacing around the graphic.  Although, to do the font solution correctly, you'd have to ensure the logos are centered with respect to the font so there's substantial work there as well (sigh)

The only thing I'd add, but it doesn't sound like you all are interested, is native Amazon Echo support.

Not sure Id give up on native Echo/Alexa support just yet.  Id say reading the comments on the board of late, there are a lot of people interested in this

I thought the solution here was to only have one background image in the "C:\Program Files\J River\Media Center 25\Skins\Theater View\Themes\[Theme Name]\Root\Audio, \Video and similar folders?

When watching a video in Theater View, core commands that bring up an overlay-ed chapter names list, and allow navigation of the list and jump to a selected chapter.

  • +1 for new skins mentioned earlier. I know that some passionates create MC skins, but it would be also great to have new professional graphics directly from the developer. MC deserved UI look & feel update!
  • I'd love to have certain dialog windows appearing as pop-ups and not in the side panel. My vote would specifically go to tagging window. I hide the side panel in my configuration, so it would be a great relief not to be forced to open and hide it each time I want to correct a tag.
Consider

  • More music organizing options using available tags. At this moment I'm organizing my music like this: Genre -> Album Artist -> Album Release Date (Year) -> Album Name and in order to achieve this I needed to create special combined library fields enhanced with some HTML formatting to hide unwanted information from displaying.

So if I understand you correctly, you want a single background for the Audio panel, and a single background for the Video Panel and so on.  The backgrounds are static for each view?

                                                                              or

Multiple backgrounds for each panel that only change when you cycle to another panel view?

Regarding skins, I'd highly recommend looking at the Modern Cards skins (and the forks of the Modern Cards skins I've done, which can be found in this topic here) as they fit a modern OS aesthetic.

Specifically the Modern Cards skins should fit the "modern" Windows 10 look and feel. The Grey Edition skin on the other hand should fit the macOS aesthetic as well.

Since 9 years I regularly buy a new version. Since the fewest new features are relevant to me, I'm more interested in supporting the product. The last useful feature "for me" was the direct processing of DSD files.
Since I only used my HTPC to listen to music and have an extensive local collection of music, I don't need any kind of streaming services, TV and so on. Just playing local music.

My requests for MC26 are the same as the last 5 years:

* genre specific tags for the remote
Today, when I start playing (any genre) a song the remote (EOS/ Gizmo, what ever) is showing
1st row: song name
2nd row: interpred and album name

what I would like to see in genre classical
1st row: song name
2nd row: composer
3rd. row: orchestra / soloists / conduktor / Chorus
the Tag and there order should be configurable.

As I understand MC it provides the remote (EOS/ Gizmo, what ever) the data to display. So the remote shows what is delivered. Therefore a kind of "debt to be brought forward".
Some customization is a good idea

* Offline DB for the remote
sometimes I am surfing the net and some possible new music came across.
because my music server was not up and running ( or not available, offline, what ever) to check if I did not already have the CD I had to let pass the opportunity ( had to park the cd's in the shopping cart, what ever).
That is the reason why I am asking to implement the possibilities for a offline DB on the remote.
Interesting idea

Introduction of popup messages to indicate the song being played (I like the management of musicbee which also lets you indicate how many seconds the popup should display at the end of the song and how many at the beginning)
Obviously it can be enabled and disabled

Ability for Media Server to be assigned which folders/file groups/file types/etc are to be served and have it ONLY serve those files which fit the set criteria. Or, have the ability to have it serve a library other than the one loaded.

Some dialog boxes for setting options open too big to see the 'Save/Close' buttons and are not resizable. This is a problem on some laptops and displays that need to be at 125% so text can be read from the sofa (my TV connected to my media machine for example).

DLNA is fast becoming the main mode of operation for most people due to the popularity of streaming services. So support for services like Tidal on Mac is essential for me.

I did stop updating MC from v24 due to lack of DSP and Tidal support of DLNA streaming. I use Audirvana (Mac) instead. I must admit though that I miss the flexibility and rich metadata/audio management of MC.

Please add a [playlist] variable when syncing playlists to sd cards or flash drives.

So if I sync a playlist called 80s Pop, and one called 90s Rock. I can have it sync in a folder structure like:

80s Pop
  Song 1
  Song 2
  Song 3
90s Rock
 Song 1
 Song 2

My couple of suggestions are pretty basic, but I believe very useful (for me at least):
1. Have an optional waveform of the track played above the time line.
2. When you rest your pointer at some point of the time line (while playing) I'd rather be able to see the time code of that position instead of the currently playing one, which is visible at the top anyway.

Every year I ask for these dsp improvements, maybe this year *crosses fingers*  https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,99096.0.html

However what would be the most useful change by far (to me and anyone who uses MC for BEQ) is the ability to get/add/remove peq filters via MCWS. A call that gets all filters in a single peq block and then calls that can add or remove individual filters would be ideal.

Maybe

Things I'm looking forward to:
- Full Featured Android / Android TV Version (as Library Server Clients)
- Better /  More Flexible Transcoding Options for serving Video to client or making offline versions
- Support for Streaming Services

Bugs & Annoyances I'd love to see fixed:
- Kill those Particle bugs & add Particlise by Chapter as an option.  It should not take long but....
- On upgrading copy over the Thumbnail DB so we don't have to rebuild

My main use of MC is audio playing  via PC server to a dedicated system. I
One thing I would like to be considered (and I have brought this up previously) is a better interface to allow the use of the various internet radio stations that are available around the world.

I know we have radio paradise and streaming of BBC  as options (among others) but there's so much more available out there and a way of playing these stations without having to resort to individual playlists (which is how I seem to have to do it now) would be great.
We should improve the add to playlist process.

Considering Media Center nor JRiver supports MQA (though apparently you can pass MQA through if you use no DSP and have volume set to 100% but it's not officially supported), I personally wouldn't be surprised if that doesn't happen. :P

Oh, I'd LOVE to hear how you got around the rebuild! Maybe a new thread if you find time to explain?

I can do that. Will start a new thread and walk thru my process. It worked perfect but it did take some time to get right.

Cheers!

A feature I believe is missing (sorry if its a bit long winded)

I am fully aware of the debate around "On Demand Streaming" like Tidal etc and of JimH's concerns re the financial viability of these providers but Amazon HD entering the arena puts a different spin on things. Amazon is far from broke and is unlikely to follow the viability path that concerns Jim around the likes of Tidal, so Hi Fi streaming looks like its here to stay

I would imagine the other 2 biggies Apple and Google will sit up and change there minds on MP3/AAC and lo fi offerings and step up to compete with Amazon on the Lossless and even HD front (albeit Amazon see HD as CD quality). Bandwidth i so cheap these days.

Currently the only way to get Tidal (and Qobuz, Idagio , Primephonic etc) into a Hi Fi system is the Cast from a mobile device or bluetooth it neither of which counts as Hi Fi to me. The inability of an ethernet source to a reliable streamer (Cambridge Audio CXN in my case) means that streaming services will always be lo fi unless you get into bed with the opposition (ie Roon, Audirvana etc)

That said I don't want to do because neither offer any customization of the views I am used to with MC, the primary reason I maintain 2 libraries. Their interfaces are "What you Get" with little customization other than sortnig options.

I know there have been great strides to streaming in MC but not in the On Demand mode its more  a "Radio Station" approach. On my CXN App I have access to the whole of Tidal & Spotify along with my DLNA server and Internat Radio but the app is extremely weak compared with JRemote so I am reluctant to follow that route.

I am not sure how difficult the coding would be but others have done it. I think its hard to deny that Streaming a la Tidal, Amazon, Google, Apple etc is the future. Why buy when you can rent approach is prevailing in the younger audience albeit somewhat lo fi on Cell Phones and the like. Maybe oldies with a collection are different.

We are being robbed of Hi Fi offerings by not having even rudimentary integration of streaming service.

I openly admit I am using Roon to provide me with this service but I have update (Loyally since V17 I may add) to version 26 and actively split my use between the 2 apps depending on my needs. I would dearly love to maintain ONE library and multiple streaming services but currently I can't as I miss out on these streaming service.

There is active discussion on Amazon integration with Roon at present , not sure what will come of it.

I am not trying to be contentious or threatening , I will continue to upgrade annually regardless but as a regular user I think you are missing an opportunity here.

I second this. At the very least can we at have graphs to show what x-overs/filters we have input. @mattkhan calls graphs a sanity check - I absolutely agree.

I had a long trial of Roon recently and although I still prefer JRiver, Roon's DSP graphs were helpful even if lacking in detail.

Pls don’t forget SSA/ASS subtitles :)
I recorded a quick video demonstrating why Media Center's subtitle support is bad: complex subtitles are rendered incorrectly, and cause the video to drop frames - to the point that it loses sync with the other player.

This, and Media Center's UI stalling the GPU, are the two biggest issues it has right now.
JRemote still not supporting full-screen playback on the latest iPads almost one year later is pretty bad too.
