We've already committed to working on ASS subtitles, which for the record is very much a feature, since no code is "wrong", a lot of it is quite simply missing for advanced formatting.

For your UI glitch, we haven't been able to reliably reproduce any problems, which makes it really hard to even diagnose any issues.

Songtext Lyrics Preview in Theater View would be nice.

Support for Floating Lyrics in Theater View would be even better!!!
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LRC_(file_format)
Good Idea

If I may say so, like it works with CU LRC Lyrics Addon for Kodi (Cough,Cough...) would be very nice!
Sorry, but i didn't have a better example... ::)

I don't remember exactly when the ver. 25 have come (april this year!?). I think, i have to do some searching on this matter. Anyway I was expected a feature which you announce on this vers. 25, but it seemes it was forgotten. The addition of related artist.  Good Idea

I was waiting eagerly for that addition but it seems it will not come. My question is this still coming on this version or on next, or never?.

And another question is, the current version is still getting any updates/features or you pass the move on the next one. Because i don't want again to see new features be added but never added or moved to the next version. I will be your loyal customer and upgrade to the new version but hoping that some of your features will not be forgotten.

Thanks for the effort put in your product and move forward.

Fixes and features still on my list:

1. FIX- We still deal with this on a daily basis, sometimes multiple times a day- Theater view IR remote buttons L/R/up/dwn/Ok stop working, but all other buttons continue to work. Other forum members confirmed, not resolved:
https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,112145

2. FIX- Using page up/page dwn buttons in Guide result in cursor jumping far off the screen to the right, not resolved:
https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,120028.msg829720.html#msg829720

3. FIX- Theater view jumbled unresponsive if left sitting idle for a while. Other forum members confirmed, not resolved:
https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,116118

4. FEATURE- Define schedule for MC library backups, and remove/move "Watch All" in theater view > video/tv shows:
https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,119218.msg825422.html#msg825422

5. FEATURE- Method for using Panel/Clients (and other remotes) as different "User", other than the User that the Server is currently logged in as:

I've been making changes in my setup and am surprised to find that multi-monitor support seems to be quite lacking in Media Center - or I'm completely missing something about it.
The only option I can find moves the entire Media Center window to the other display when playback starts, and restores it when playback stops.
It's either that, or manually starting playback, detaching the display, moving it to the other monitor, and making it full-screen - which has to be set up again every time Media Center is restarted.
Having a "detached display (full-screen) on monitor #" option for the "jump on playback" behavior settings would probably be ideal. Better yet, this would be set per-zone so it never has to be changed and can be set up with a zone for each display.

For your UI glitch, we haven't been able to reliably reproduce any problems, which makes it really hard to even diagnose any issues.
It should be easy to reproduce but I'll find something that is free which shows the issue and write steps to reproduce it.

Since you have Educational for Media Sub Type, It would also be nice to have Entertainment.
Some of these youtube videos just don't fit well in the current selections.

I agree with a lot of folks about the Theater View getting a more fluid and modern update.

If that is being worked on, one major complaint from me is the fact that Theater View uses so much gpu processing while doing nothing.
I do recall Jim explaining that Theater View is refreshing and that's why it uses the gpu.  I'm no programmer, but something seems inefficient in the coding.
I play 4K video files, and my processor and gpu are barely being used.  However, if I stop playing a video file and just leave it on Theater View, my system starts heating up because the gpu is being used almost entirely.
I could reboot my system, start MC, leave it on Theater View, same thing.
If I play music, same thing.  This has always been a thing with MC.

I tried out Kodi just to test that out, but it doesn't use all that processing power from the gpu just to display their UI.  And Kodi has a far more graphical menu compared to MC.
Again, I'm not a programmer so I don't know, but it just seems like something about Theater View runs very inefficient.

When restoring a library backup, currently we have the options to restore Files and Playlists, as well as Settings. Can we get a third option that restores the Media Network Access Key too?
We could then uncheck this if we wanted to have identical libraries or settings on multiple machines, without them conflicting when it comes to Media Network keys.

Please start a new thread on this.  It's not normal.  Could be a driver problem.  Could be background processing for building thumbnails, analyzing audio, etc., but that should stop after a few hours maximum.

Theater View options allow you to specify the frame rate and drawing quality.  On a weak processor, they might need to be reduced.

I'll split this later unless you start a thread.

I still think this idea would work for sorting by last names.

Yea you can try to work around things by coding but I think that my idea would work much easier.
Not sure if there are reasons against it.

Just as easy to DIY. Creating additional dialogs and popups and input mechanisms when the functionality is already there is kind of pointless. In fact, the best option is to eschew the reverse naming scheme altogether and use values that match the fields and leverage the database to do the work.

In addition to existing Import Playlist functionality, please add -

Import Playlist function that logically searches library for matching track "candidates" - based upon Track:

[Name]
[Artist]
[Album] option
[Track #] option
[Duration] option

Variables with "option" may be selectively included/excluded from match criteria prior to importation

This would allow more robust "3rd party" playlist importation success - without need for exact file path characteristics in local library

What happens if you press and hold?  I thought we did that.

All I get is the play and add dialog box when I press and hold using either my phone or tablet.  I haven't tried using panel from another laptop or pc.

Please could you come up with a better fix for playing DSD through DLNA.

1. Sorting out the capacity for Sony players to play DSD over DLNA without having to manually amend the Fileassocianions.xml file

2. A fix for gapless playback with DSD. Having 1 song file together with a cue file should work (in theory) under Mode - Specified Format Only When Necessary. However it doesn't work properly... If you select, skip or play any song in the album, it just goes back to the beginning of the album (file).

Thanks

+1 to High-End's post
I also would like to have optimized the tagging feature, as I use additionally programs like BeaTunes and Jaikoz, so that I get a really extensive Tag-Dump.

And a small one:
The menu bar of the MAC version still does not look and feel like a MAC menu bar (you still have to click, font size, etc.). Please change!

This has been discussed multiple times here on the forums. MC uses its own system for drawing menus, and I would guess supporting the "native" Mac menus isn't an easy thing to do at all.

Well... this might be the case, but it was asked for feature requests and this is one. Other programs like BeaTunes who are also available in a Windows version do support the MAC menu style. So this not a problem that can't be solved. However, this is just a feature request... nothing more. Take it, or leave it.

An easy one: If Theater View is displaying recorded shows, that list should update when a new show begins recording.
Done

Harder: "Stop" button stops working sometimes while watching live TV. The only way to get it to work again is, while the live TV is still playing, start playing a recorded show. Then the stop button always works again. Two completely different Win10 systems at my house show this behavior from time to time.
Is this still happening?

Sorry, also in DSP Studio (all sections): please add Apply/OK/Cancel buttons in all windows. Currently, it is quite easy to make unnoticed changes by mistake.
Good Idea

For those that want to try "on-the-fly" changes (as happens now), perhaps add an "on-the-fly" button too, to maintain current functionality.

I'd like the ability to create a smart list that will determine each song in the playlist based on the previous song, given some set of criteria.
For example, a "Rock through history" playlist might start with a song from a specified year; the next song would be from the next year, and so on.
Another example: A playlist might start with a random song; the next song would have some common Person with the first; the third song would have some common Person with the second; and so on.

It seems to me that Play Doctor does something like this. So, I'm curious if it's that big a leap to enable this feature.

Been a JRiver annual upgrader since version 18, and on the Mac since v20 or so. Very happy as long as it continues to improve, which it has.
  • +1 for improved skins, particularly on the Mac. Right now they are all very 2005 Windows XP-ish.
  • +1 for more alignment with the Mac in general. I run JR25 on my iMac 27' and it's a great solution, but definitely lacks the elegance of a native Mac app.
My final and rather aspirational idea comes from a few years of recent experience of using Apple's Final Cut Pro X video editor. There is this concept of "Workspaces" within the Windows menu, where you can quickly show, hide, arrange, or size any of the components or panels you want to work with for a given task, then customize and save them so you can quickly toggle the environment for those tasks.

So for example, if I want to manage and tag Movies, I might want all of my panels, thumbnails, tagging window, etc. to immediately configure, size, and/or render themselves a certain way. If working with Audio or Images, I might want something different. But I can have the tree view, tag editor, content panels, etc. all show/hide, arrange, and size themselves based on what I'm doing, and "Hide" all the things I do NOT want to use. Basically I want to tailor, simplify, and focus the interface for what I'm doing.

Today, most of the interface is fixed and I have to do a lot of clicking to set things up the way I want. Panel Views are cumbersome to use. The "Favorites" menu bar option starts to walk down this path a bit, but only goes a few steps. If this is at all unclear, which would not be surprising because I'm not great at describing it, just watch some recent YouTube videos on using "Final Cut Pro X Workspaces".

Interesting Idea

Try the Modern Cards: Grey Edition (which matches the light theme macOS aesthetic) or the Modern Cards: Dark Edition (which matches the dark theme macOS aesthetic) skins. They should fit pretty well on macOS.

It is possible that this has been done since I last upgraded but here goes....

It would be great to have some simple keyboard commands or macros to select an entire playlist and clear it.   I do not think there is a command similar to Control A which selects everything to remove everything from the now playing list.  I would love to just hit some kind of keyboard command (say Command R) and automatically clear out the now playing list with actually clicking on a track, hitting control A, then going into the menu and pulling down "remove from this list".

Hi!

Would upgrade if:

- When auto stacking will have a better popup window - Drop-down list with extension types of selected files, with default checkbox (can be default per view, or per file types selected, or maybe priority list).
- When dragging and dropping a stack to a folder, popup window to ask which type to copy.
- Proper IPTC tag support.
- Copy tags between files based on file name (selecting JPGs -> right click -> Library Tools -> Copy Fields Between Files -> popup with check box fields to be copied -> selecting RAWs -> right click -> Library Tools -> Paste Fields. The action will be to paste the fields based on file name matching).
- As requested several times before - proper support for Right-to-Left languages! Typing in a field is just a bad joke...  :(

Thanks,
Uri.

automatically clear out the now playing list

There is a "Clear Playing Now" button you can add to the Toolbar in Standard View. See "Customise Toolbar".

1/Many are complaining about the UI although JRiver people doesn't like we say that because complains are not specific enough. Some other music players are looking much more modern such as plex or roon or audirvana but we cannot switch to them as they don't do one per cent of what is doing JRiver. Personnally I am quite satisfied with black on black UI although even in that  case  JRiver remains really a finger hater. When I travel I use my Microsoft Surface and I cannot use JRiver MC as well as I can use windows explorer  with my fingers. Theater wiew is a better solution than panel for finger use but in both case they are not satisfactory as we often need to go to settings and on panel we don't have accesss to the tags.
So my first request is to get the UI as finger friendly as windows explorer.

2/When I listen to Qobuz a streaming service, I just set the application output to JRiver  WDM driver to benefit from JRiver machines such as convolution. However it would be nice to have streaming services such as Qobuz , Tidal  and probaly a few others fully integrated. Even a very small company like bubbleupnp integrates Qobuz and Tidal on their android application so I believe JRiver can do it on windows.

Been discussed many times, I'd recommend doing a search of the forums about these and why it probably won't happen.

That’s because of the perceived financial viability of these services, Amazon HD changes this

Just for Amazon though, those other streaming services may not survive because of Amazon.

Full integration of Tidal would be mandatory for me, as all the offered options are useless.
I understand this does not seem to happen. I just do not understand why, when considering the importance of streaming today.
It adds up to my frustration with MC for years, where nothing major happened (I use MC for audio only, and this is where you should have stayed. Focusing on video was worst decision ever.). I will stay with MC25, no annual fee (oops, upgrade fee) for me anymore, as long as Tidal is not fully integrated.

I fear you are correct in your pessimism for Tidal. As far as I know Amazon has launched at a lower price that either Tidal or Qobuz .

Amazon will no doubt bulldoze its way. If MC is to integrate a service the it would be Amazon no doubt to be in keeping with JimH's view of financial viability.

Its also a big player in Roon's survival IMHO , as losing Tidal or Qobuz without a replacement would be a big blow to them.

To me its a bit academic as Amazon don't have a foothold in South Africa yet, they barely allow imports from the US in many cases , so we wait . The US market is clearly the first target.

I still maintain 2 systems to keep my options open

Do a search of the forums for Tidal to find out why it won't happen. It was discussed years ago but it actually almost happened, but ultimately it couldn't be done.

This seems simple and I am surprised it hasn't been done yet.

-In Windows Explorer, put a JRiver icon next to the right click context menu item "Play in Media Center".
Good Idea

It always takes a long uncomfortable moment when I am using a mouse in Windows Explorer to send stuff to JRiver, and I do it a lot. This will help us visually track where the option is in an often crowded context menu. Almost all other programs do this.

Concerning user entered URL for internet radio as seen here:
https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Connected_Media

I like how they can be tagged and used in custom views and wouldn't want to change that. But instead of them going under "Web Media" it would be nice if they had their own section under Streaming that is basically identical to podcasts. They could be named upon creation and all show up in an expandable tree menu called something like "User Stations".
