Some internet stations won't play
« on: October 15, 2019, 11:18:08 am »

I'm evaluating the linux version (ver 25.0.108) on Ubuntu 19.04, and before buying the license I'd like to be sure I can play my favourite stations.

Several stations I've tried (Radio Fip, Radio Paradise, Radio Tunes, Swiss Classic Radio) all work fine, but one of my favourite stations - Venice Classic Radio - won't play and gives a "something went wrong with playback" message. I'd be grateful for any pointers on what might be wrong (I've tried various URLs including those given in the help section of their website). Has anyone got this station working?

Also, is there a way of disabling the keyring which pops up each time I try to navigate to different sites?

What's the URL for that station?

For the keyring, I assume it's coming from the chromium browser, it seems like you should just be able to accept it's request and have it remember that.

I've tried

http://109.123.116.202:8020/stream - which works with VLC
and also
http://www.veniceclassicradio.eu/live1/128.m3u
which their website suggests

my problem is I'm a novice in these matters

The http://www.veniceclassicradio.eu/live1/128.m3u URL works for me.
Go to File->Open URL
Put in the URL and click the show web menu option...
Make sure play stream is checked and add to web media if you want to save it.

I did that, but it still doesn't work, even after upgrading to the latest MC25.

Also, for the stations that do work, choosing DSD output doesn't have any effect; my DAC says it's PCM.

I have HQPlayer outputting DSD ok to my T+A DAC 8 DSD, so it's not presumably a hardware issue (unfortunately HQPlayer will only play radio stations that stream flac). Also JRiver correctly detects my DAC in the usbstream section of the devices.

If I add Venice Classic radio to the streaming section, and then choose it, I get a black screen with a message saying that the web browser engine is not working properly, and also the playback problem window

Does your DAC play 44.1k?
I don't think you can up sample the streams to DSD.

Yes it plays the radio streams at 44.1k (except Venice Classic of course). So output encoding in the options only applies to individual files and not streams?

Looks like I was wrong about that, I just tried it and it does upsample the stream to DSD. I just did the Output Encoding to DSD Dop 2x and your radioviennaclassic stream and it worked fine.

Note that you cannot play it through the Web Engine and get all of the MC features. If you add the station as I described above and then play it by going to
Streaming->Web Media
It should work fine. BTW you can rename the URL from it's generic name there to whatever you want.

OK, well I'm afraid I can't get it to work, The only channels I can get to play are via the icons on the main streaming page - your method just results in the playback problem message, so I'll have to give it a miss.

Thanks for your help.

It's possible there is an issue with the User Agent we report though I don't know why it works for me.
Will let you know if we discover more.
