JRemote + Apple Watch
« on: December 01, 2014, 11:28:57 am »

Hi,

I know the WatchKit SDK is brand new, but I'm curious about plans for if/how JRemote will work with the Apple Watch. I'm envisioning all kinds of amazing capability with this combo :)

Have not had time to look at the SDK yet.
I assume that all media playback can be controlled from the watch by default. (like on the lock screen).

Will certainly create something specific for the watch next year. It`s a small screen, so not sure at the moment what kind of functionality should be there.

I know it's been a while since this question was asked. I was sitting here listening to my music via JRiver and wanted to skip a song. Just thought how nice if we even had just basic music controls on our Apple Watch. I would look at the Directv Apple Watch app to get some ideas. Simple "now playing" and then ff/rw and skip would be great. I hope others agree!

I would love to see this happen as well. My main request is to be able to search and browse media.

Hi,

Are there any news / plans for this?
It’s a pitty that most of the players have remotes for the watch but not jriver.
In general I think that it’s time to spend some attention to the remote again... it’s outdated over the last years but I get new MC release every year.

Regards

I don't think it'd be a very good experience on a watch, in my opinion.

Well, I use an Apple Watch when going for a run. It works pretty well to start/stop/shuffle/forward etc. the music -even while running.

However, due to JRiver's lack of "interest" in anything Apple, I very much doubt anything with regard to the Apple Watch is on the horizon. From my point of view JRemote and MC would first need to be better integrated into macOS/iOS/iPadOS before even considering spending effort on watchOS integration.

I don't think I'd say they have no "interest" (otherwise MC for Mac wouldn't be a thing and JRemote for iOS would've been long discontinued), it's more like there's likely very little to no return on the development investment in an app for watchOS.

That doesn't mean some other developer couldn't just create a watchOS app using MCWS, but interest (and potential incentive) is likely pretty low.
