My biggest problem with Media center...
« on: November 02, 2019, 11:49:26 pm »

... seems to be self-inflicted.

"something went wrong with playback"

This evening I've been doing the cord-cutter thing.  I have spent the entire evening consuming content via Media Center.

But I made one big mistake...

OK, allow me to take a needed step back and describe what is going on here.  Indulge me.  :)

My setup consists of a MC server running on the desktop PC.  Then there is a MC client running on the PC in the media cabinet.

I am watching content on the MC client in the media cabinet.

But it is getting late, so I turn off the PC hosting the MC server.

Oops.

So what does the MC client in the media cabinet do?

It finishes the current video it was playing.  Quite nicely.

Then when it goes to play the next item, it puts up a screen saying, to effect, WTF.

OK, it really said something like, ""Something went wrong with playback"

That jogged me to realize, well, duh, don't shut down the server when the client needs it.

So I powered up the MC server PC.

And guess what happened next?

The MC client was all happy and smiles that it could find its server once again, and it played the video for me.

It is so nice when software so nicely accommodates human error in such a forgiving manner.

This is a good thing.  :)
