Using ASIO on MC 9.0.164 there is a terible buzzing sound whenever I do certain things.  

This includes switching songs, and in Hairstyle mode doing everything.  

This is a serious drawback to using MC.  My amps and speakers are suffering greatly.

Need to know what sound card your are using.

Also which ASIO driver are you using?

Some older version of kXProject driver (if that is what you are using) did some strange things, but the last two versions have been pretty good.

Also certain sound cards acted up with earlier kXProject drivers.

I know the Creative SoundBlaster Live & Audigy II had a problem but was cleared up in the last two releases of kXProject Driver.

Thanks for the welcome. I am using a Delta 410.  I have never head any problems with winamp.  Where do I find what ASIO driver I am using.  I did not download it.  It was just built into MC9.

I do not have a SB card so I do not think that driver is going to help.  

Has anyone else experienced this?  It is not really a buzz.  It is more like a "errrrrrrrrrrrrr" sound.  It happens when I switch between tracks.

It has made MC9 basically unusable.  I do not want to ruin my equipment.  

I will try upgrading to the newest build and see if it changes anything.  

edit- just upgraded to 9.0.168 and I think it might be worse.  Whenever I switch tracks using the FF button, it makes a terrible sound in between.  It is short, but very noticeable.  

I am running WinXP.   Can it be that Winamp's ASIO driver is interfering?  I have never run both programs at the same time however.  I checked and there are no other processes running that use the sound card.

Another ASIO issue:

I cannot play 2 zones at once.  ASIO does not allow 2 different programs to access the souncard at the same time.

Has anyone successfully set up 2 zones using a Delta 410 (playing at the same time) and ASIO?

The noise only comes when the track is buffering.  Under Direct Sound, there is no noise, but under ASIO, there is the buzzing sound.

Have you tried adjusting the buffering setting in Media Center?
Tools > Options > Playback > Output > Settings...

I had some problems with ASIO playback. Sliding the buffering bar all the way to the right (More Responsive) and some tinkering with my card's ASIO buffering settings cleared up the problems.

A robust explanation of MC's ASIO strategy would be nice. Samples/buffer, that sort of thing... Hopefully this will find its way into the help file at some point.

I get the same thing using ASIO on 2 different PC/Sound Cards and it happens while buffering.

Do you guys have DSP Studio set up correctly.  This has a big impact on ASIO quality.

* Select Player/Player Options/DSP Studio.
* Check Output Gain box.
* Select Sample Rate 48,000 HZ.

If 44,100 HZ is currently checked you will hear distorted sound on playback

Mine is set at 48,000. It only happens when MC displays 'buffering...'.

On my 24/96, DSP studio works for everything except environment. It's big time choppy when used. The others work just fine.

Also, when using hibernation, I found out it doesn't like ASIO. That's what's causing MC to stall when coming back, it will say "buffering..." forever. Starting another track will not fix it. Have to 'stop', then 'play'.

I thought that people could upsample to 88,200 Hz with MC and a Delta 410 and ASIO?  And now I hear that you can't even leave the rate at 44,100 Hz?

That isn't true.  All sample rates work fine.  If your card can only run its clock at certain speeds, you'll obviously have to use one of these or it won't work.

And I can't reproduce this -- my M-Audio is working as expected.  Do DSP or other settings make any difference?
