Changing Waveform Color Options
« on: December 13, 2019, 10:25:05 am »

I have set my player on the new waveform option. I currently have it set going from red to blue. Which I think is the default setting. How do you change/customize color options?

I have read (WaveformBarA / WaveformBarB in PLAYERBAR / Display). But I don't understand how to use these steps. Thanks.

As an example, you need to set this in the skin:

<PLAYERBAR>
      <Entry Name="Display" >
         <Colors ... WaveformBarA="80868d" WaveformBarB="33b5e5" />

If you're editing a built-in skin, please share what you did.  Thanks.

Depending on which skin you're using, that file will be located somewhere like this: C:\Program Files\J River\Media Center 26\Skins\Standard View\ModernCards Grey\Main.XML

If you're going to make changes to main.xml, I suggest forking/making a copy of the skin and editing main.xml giving it an edited name so MC26 updates don't override your skin changes.

I can't seem to find that skin, if you can either upload it or link me to it and tell me what colors you want instead, I'll take a look at it for you. :)

I can't upload it. It's in JRiver accessories between "the fly" and "windows media 11." The skin choices are in ABC order. You will find this in View/Skin and click on "download skin page. Hope this helps.

For my choices it would be dark green passing thru black.

Ah, okay, found it. What colors do you want the wavebar to be (the color for what's been played and the color that hasn't been played)?

I change my mind. No dark green.

Yellow is playing and black is hasn't been played. Thanks.

Ironic, already got a work-in-progress version using those kind of colors using the same yellow and dark blue (though not black) colors the skin uses in other places. How's this? :P

Your skin folders will be either here (depends if you're running 32 or 64 bit)

C:\Program Files (x86)\J River\Media Center 26\Skins\Standard View

or here

C:\Program Files\J River\Media Center 26\Skins\Standard View

In that folder you should see a folder with the name of the view you are using.  Open that folder and find the file named "Main.xml".  open that up in Notepad and locate the section that starts with

<PLAYERBAR>

In my personal skin, I've edited it with the following

<Entry Name="Display" >
   <Colors TitleText="d9d9d9" StatusText="e6e6e6" WaveformBarA="747474" WaveformBarB="1f6399"/>
   <DisplayFont TitleSize="125" TitleWeight="800" StatusSize="95" StatusWeight="400" />
</Entry>

Or drop the file that AD put in Dropbox into one of the above directories.

Ok. I went as far as saving changes to notepad. The waveform I typed in is exactly the way it was given. However when tried to save in Main.xml it keeps giving a message that I don't have permission to open file and see owner or administrator to obtain permission.

Here is the slight changes:

<Entry Name="Display" Bitmap="Playerbar_Display.png" NumberImages="1" Margins="69,0,106,0" DrawMode="REGION_E_HTILE,REGION_E_VSTRETCH" >
   <Colors TitleText="132243" StatusText="0E1A34" WaveformBarA="FBFCD8" WaveformBarB="061D3F" />

Windows and the way it does, is silly sometimes, anyhow, try to go on the MC folder find the skins folder, right click on it and disable the check on the permission where is say read only and apply, and after that no more nonsense with admin...

I tried everything you mention. Still getting same no permission message. I went MC 26 folder, skins, right clicked standard view, went to properties and unchecked attributes read-only box. Then I went notepad and applied changes and tried to save it under main.xml. Is this correct? I am sorry I am not a computer expert. ?

Try to open the notepad in your search bar at win10 and open with admin privilege, and go on the folder of MC skins and open your main.xml and try that way. It should work, if not just send me the file and i will modify it for you.

You should either copy or move the main.xml file from the folder its in, to the desktop and edit it there, then either move or copy it back to the folder where it was (giving administrator permission when it asks).

Ok. That was the trick. Did as you said and set main.xml as a desktop with slight changes for waveform bar. I restarted my computer and went to notepad and checked the info and it is still there. That is good. When I opened the jriver and played music, the waveform has not changed. What do I need to do from here?

You need to make sure you moved/copied the edited main.xml file back to the skin's main installation folder then switch to a different skin, then back to the skin.

You encounter this because Windows needs administrator permissions to modify any file in the Program Files directory. You can get around this by running Notepad (I personally use Notepad++) as an administrator, then opening the main.xml file in the skin's main folder and editing it and saving it. Then switch skins and back again and see if the changes were made.

Did as you said and this time I got it right. I had switch waveform A and B because it was backwards in the notepad.

Thanks everyone for pitching to help :)

If you're editing a built-in skin, please share what you did.  Thanks.
I did the obvious thing and edited Modern Cards Dark so that the colors matched the existing progress bar.

Code: [Select]
<Entry Name="Display" >
<Colors TitleText="d9d9d9" StatusText="d9d9d9" WaveformBarA="2f2f2f" WaveformBarB="1f6299"/>
<DisplayFont TitleSize="125" TitleWeight="800" StatusSize="95" StatusWeight="400" />
</Entry>

I'd suggest making the default for skins that don't define colors to match the colors for a selected list item.
Use the text color for current progress, and the background color for remaining. That seems like it should work well for most skins. Better than red/blue at least.

I still do plan on editing the waveform seekbar stuff for all the bundled skins at some point, hopefully this weekend, to better match each skin and I'll submit the changes to Matt.
