Hairstyle Suggestions
« on: May 01, 2003, 03:32:07 pm »

New Skins are nice

A few suggestions.  Some are repeated.  All are relevant.  Any other suggestions/comments welcome

* Still no way to see which track is playing in Playing Now view
* When looking through a view scheme Artist/Album, at the artist level if an artist only has one album thumbnails for all tracks are shown.  If artist has more than one album, album thumbnails are shown.  Would be better if Artist level always showed album thumbnails.  Album level always showed track thumbnails.  More consistent
* Slideshow in HS.  Press enter/click view goes full screen.  You would expect escape to return you to HS and stop the slideshow.  instead it returns you o MEGA ME and the slideshow carries on.  What should the correct key sequence be to stop show and return to HS?
I guess it should be the menu key but apparently this is difficult to access w/ Girder?? (Not sure as I have never tried this)
* Stop a video while watching in the PIP, MC jumps to FS but the screen is Blank.  A bit quirky...
* How about a key combo to jump back to the root of the menu?  Maybe the home key?
* Display of playing details visible at all times like the new clock.  At the very least a timer display.
* Hairstyle ignores MCs Dbl click options.  Dbl clicking in HS ALWAYS replaces playing now. Even when MC is set to add to the end of playing now.  In fact there is currently no way to do anything else in Hairstyle except replace the currently playing now.
* Some way to display file info from within HS.  Either in the pip or in a separate section of the screen

Thats it for now...

Keep up the good work.  I understand that one of these will probably be implemented before release so consider them my first ideas for MC 9 SP1 ;D

I wonder why action in a Hairstyle should require a double-click.  To me, it seems more natural for a single-click to suffice.  Am I alone?

I agree.  For a long while I thought this was a bug and that MC was not correctly working with the Mouse.  Then I realised I had to double click...
There are a lot of HS improvements that I will be pushing for in 9.1/10.0.  Potentially this could be killer but it still needs some work at the moment to be better than myHTPC or WMCE.

You have great software here guys.  I think it could be the best!!

I think the biggest improvement should be speed. Hairstyle is pretty slow  to respond at times on my machine. And my machine is no slouch.

Media Center Registered 9.0.168 -- C:\Program Files\J River\Media Center\

Microsoft Windows XP  Workstation 5.1 Service Pack 1 (Build 2600)

A good point.  My wife (who is quite computer illiterate) can't use Hairstyle because she gets too confused with the delay bewtween pressing an arrow key and the key taking effect - something like two or three seconds on some occasions.

You'd think she'd learn...  press a key and *WAIT* until something happens.  But, no.  I have to hide the remote on her!

I agree on the speed.  I also think the Version 10 HS could be much more extensible.  At the moment it still has just the same buttons as you see in MEGA ME eg Playing Now, Media Library etc.  It would be ncie to thinkit could eventually be like My HTPC and you could add your own buttons and extend it with plugins beyond the ordinary functions it has like MC itself can

Yeah, even at my XP 2600+ KT4 (400 mHz) system it's painfully slow, actually to the point of not being used because of it! And I really can't see any defensible reason for this!  >:(
