Hi,

Not being an expert: the consensus seems to be (strongly) that when lossy is neccessary/desired, AAC is preferred to MP3, so long as the player is compatible, due to higher efficiency (similar quality at lower bitrates).

I was about to convert several thousand library source files of varying formats to AAC for a handheld, and discovered there is no option to convert to AAC available.

Questions: Was this an ommission by design, and, is there any plan to add AAC output to MC?

P.S. -- a) I'm aware of the workarounds involving external encoder(s) but would prefer to avoid that. b) This post is not intended to start any discussion about percieved sound quality differences MP3 vs. AAC.

We plan to add a AAC option in MC26.

Actually ... I was also considering going to ALAC, but I'm stumped on another front re: how to reduce bit-depth 24>16 in the handheld sync conversion settings. I posted on that topic, too, a few minutes ago:

In the meantime, I use QAAC64.exe.
