Media Center 9.0.167 available here
« on: May 02, 2003, 09:08:19 am »

Media Center 9.0.167 is available.

ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaCenter90167.exe

Only report show-stoppers.  We are very close to release.

(minor problems will be addressed with a service release later)

History

1. Fixed: Uinstaller was not removing all MC's registry entries.
2. Fixed: Half video height on TV output in ATI Theater mode bug was fixed.
3. Fixed: CD ripping/playing wasn't working correctly on some Win9X systems.
4. Fixed: Auto rip function would intermittently fail to select CD tracks.
5. Fixed: Stopping playback with visualizations running could cause crashes. (more common with slow fadeouts)
6. Changed: Rename from properties now uses "Unknown Artist", "Unknown Album", etc. when a field is empty.
7. Changed: Rename from properties no longer creates a subdirectory if a field had a backslash in it.
8. Changed: Changes in visualization studio take effect immediately -- not after leaving an item.
9. Fixed: Media Server TiVo stopping problem.
10. Changed: Media Server TCP send buffer size increased.

Could you pleeease make it so that old behavior is still accessible? Me personally, I like it better when tracks with empty album field are simply put into the artist directories (I use the ARTIST\ALBUM scheme), simply because not all tracks can have anything sensible in the album field.

Show Stopper Bugs:
1. Last two builds of MC crash my PC when I attempt to burn a data CD!!  Just freezes my PC, burning stops and I have to reboot.  I'm going to install prior releases until I get MC data CD burning to work again and report back.

Update:
Loaded 9.0.164 (from Monday) and the data CD burn (same files) finally burned without a problem (no PC lockups).  With 166, I had 2 lockups before giving up.  With 167, had 1 lockup and gave up.

Update:
Loaded 9.0.165 and the data CD burn worked fine.  Suspect the CDWriter.ocx from 9.0.166 is the problem...going to reinstall 9.0.166 now and test and verify the .OCX changed in that release (for Yamaha support, I guess).

Update:
Installed MC 9.0.166 again and attempted another data CD burn of the same tracks and MC locked up my PC again...something (CDWriter.ocx) in 166 and higher is the problem...CONFIRMED.  Going to try 166 with 165's CDWriter.OCX now to prove my point (hopefully)...after I reboot that frozen PC, that is.

Update:
Using MC 9.0.166/7 and CDWriter.ocx from 9.0.165 works like a champ...no PC lockups.  So, sadly, the current CDWriter.ocx is in poor shape and not ready for primetime.

Both of the reproducible crashes I reported for 166 still occur with 167:

- The one regarding switching from a docked to a windowed File Info window (which doof confirmed in the 166 thread)

- The one regarding hitting Stop twice with fadeout enabled

5. Fixed: Stopping playback with visualizations running could cause crashes. (more common with slow fadeouts)

This unfortunately did not correct the latter of the two crash scenarios.  I can reproduce the crash I described there without visualizations, and I just did with 167.

Not sure if this is a problem with Glissando or MC but trying to use the Media browser tool in Glissando totally kills MC and results in Media Core dying and crashing.
Latest build of MC.

According to the error report it's being caused by:
remoteserver.dll

Hairstyle mode - playing songs (mp3s) is still jumping to fullscreen mode and out of hairstyle.

Media server is still not working for me and wont connect to the other machine.

Clicking on 'exit' after failing to find a media server is still crashing MC.

This still occurs (and is somewhat annoying)...

I have dbl click behavior set to Add to Playing Now (play next). This works fine if they're is something already playing. But if there isn't...it puts the entire list into Playing Now and starts at the highlighted song. Note: Add to Playing Now (to end) works correctly.

10-27

edit: Never mind. Changing the dbl click setting then back again corrected problem. MC is behaving more like MJ every day...which is a good thing.

Bugs:
1. Sometimes CD Erase doesn't work...says it did, but the disk contents are still there (and accessible).  Just click the erase button again it works (erases).  I'd say CDWriter.ocx is unstable now...was alot better in releases prior to 9.0.166.
