Scroll Bar Weirdness....
« on: April 29, 2003, 12:43:44 pm »

I'm using the Z skin, but happens with the few other skins I've just tried.  This problem does not happen with skins disabled.  I don't think it was this way with v8, but I don't have it to try.

Get either window with a very long list and a scroll bar, with the scroll bar at the top.

Put your mouse pointer in the middle of the scrollable area and hold down your left mouse button there.  The scroll bar should move to where your mouse pointer is at and STAY there.  Instead it continues all the way to the bottom.

I've tried many other windows programs, the only program I see that has this scroll bar weirdness is a skinned v9.

MC Development - is this a bug?

Since it works non-standard Windows, I'd guess it is.

True -- maybe there's some subtle difference between skinned scrollbars and non-skinned ones.

But did you notice how cool the skinned ones look?

I guess what I'm asking that if it is a bug, will it be fixed?

It really violates the concept of the scroll bar.  I use the click and hold feature to move the scroll bar to where I want it, rather than grab, drag and move.  Takes less effort my way and it should work this way, since I'm sure it's part of the Windows "standard".

Personally, I don't like the AOL like rounded space cadet look of the Z skinned scroll bars, simply because they are smaller and harder to grab.  I do use a skin to get grid lines since non-skins don't show the scroll lines.  The look of the scroll bars is really not important to me, but you did ask for my opinion.  I prefer a simple non-flashy totally functional look over a flashy eye candy type of thing  ( I have my Windows XP set to "classic").

well i kind of figure it like

Point A -------------------------------------Point B

But It Takes 2 Days To Drive To Point B at 65 mph So I Must Stop At The Mid Way Point And Stay At Motel 6 (The Light Was Left On For Me), And i would be kind of tired also.

Since 2 eggs and 3 strips of bacon and a cup of coffee costs $4.98.

when would you think the scroll bar stop? ________

[A] When Tom Bodet Turns The Lights off
When The Eggs Expire
[C] When The Train Reaches The Bus Station
[D] All The Above
[E] When Matt Feels It Should Stop.

Well first of all, it's either right skinned or right non-skinned, being different is absoutely incorrect.

Try it in Word, in Excel in Access.in IE, in Netscape, any other program I have ever tried in Windows.  The scroll bar stops at the mouse pointer location, it does not continue past the mouse pointer location to the end, only in skinned MC.

To me it's clearly a bug in MC skinned views that should be corrected.

Matt...

I think your on to something here. I just tried it on PixOS and I like it! You don't have to reset the cursor position if you want to continue up or down. Can you change it back? (or make it an option). If scrolling moves too fast you could always underclock your cpu (or better yet...an option to control CPU clock speed from MC).
