Asus u7 mark ii soundcard does not work with jriver

I used to have a Musiland monitor us 1 and it worked fine for optical output.  I upgraded to windows 10, which it is not compatible with and was advised to get the u 7 mark ii.  It does not work, although my Dac indicates it is getting an optical signal, but no sound out of the speakers.  It does work with foobar and VLC.  What is happening?  I want JRiver due to all the options and superiority over the other audio applications.  Any suggestions?  I am using 24 bit 44.1 input and outpu, spdif out with Asus U 7.

If you're using the 64-bit version of JRiver Media Center, try the 32-bit version instead.
