Media Center 9.0.163 available here
« on: April 29, 2003, 08:46:24 am »

Media Center 9.0.163 is available.

ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaCenter90163.exe

History

1. Changed: Album grouped thumbnails now sort by album then artist. (instead of artist then album)
2. Fixed: MC would fail to properly update a file if the filename and tag information was changed in one swipe.
3. Fixed: "Make All Views Like Current" wouldn't always save the sort order.
4. Fixed: Playback filter would not be updated after database changes. (so last played filters, etc. weren't possible)
5. Fixed: MC is much more responsive while CD burning is taking place.
6. Fixed: Media Center was failing to acquire thumbnails for DRM protected video files.
7. Fixed: Media Center will import duration and bitrate information for Quicktime files.
8. Changed: Upgraded Remote Server to a newer version. (thanks Ben!)

Bugs (guessing too hard to fix for 9.0 release, eh?):
1. MC has a hard time playing .PLS files stored on your PC.  If you stop (shutdown) MC and click on a .PLS file (with a list of streaming radio stations) from Windows Explorer, MC will play the .PLS file.  If you attempt to play the same .PLS file from within MC (via MC's My Computer for example), MC will report "Please select file(s) to play.".  If you have MC running and click on the same .PLS file from Windows Explorer you get the same error message.  Again, stop (shutdown) MC and click on the .PLS file from Windows Explorer and MC will start & play the .PLS file (no problem).

Sample .PLS file:
Quote
[playlist]
numberofentries=3
File1=http//152.163.134.164:80/stream/1039
Title1=ChroniX Aggression
Length1=-1
File2=http://64.236.34.141:80/stream/1012
Title2=Radiostorm.com
Length2=-1
File3=http://62.179.101.66:7128
Title3=METAL EXPRESS RADIO
Length3=-1
Version=2

Bugs:
1. This has been mentioned by others, but I'll just confirm it still happens regularly in MC 9.  If you are listening to a streaming MP3 radio station and switch to listening to MP3s stored on your PC, the MC playback engine seems to get 'whacked-out'...it plays the MP3 files with skips and pops as if frames are missing or something.  Stopping playback and restarting usually doesn't fix it either.  Shutting down MC and restarting MC always fixes the problem.

Since you guys have done away with things for me to whine about (and others too, judging by the inactivity here)...well...

I have a request...

If you get another build in before release, could you make the selection under View>View Filter either sticky or better yet a option to be sticky. I generally set it to Show Audio Files Only. The other file types are still accessible through Playlists & Smartlists. Give it a thought, OK?
