Distinguish between CDs and Downloads
« on: April 30, 2020, 07:04:17 am »

If your music collection contains a mixture of ripped CDs and downloaded music from, say iTunes, what is the best tag in MC to distinguish between them? I can't see a 'Source' tag but something similar may already exist?

Thanks

I use "Source" Field. I can't remember if it is MC Standard or was selfdefined by me. (You can add fields under Tools->Options->Manage->Library & Folders.

I added a custom field called Media Source. Complete with a custom drop down that basically covers off any possible media delivery type I could (or might) think of.

I have a custom name and define the valid values in the custom library definition.

[Source] would be a custom field.

However, there is a default field [Store Name] which you could populate.  I think the intention of this field is self-explanatory.

An empty [Store Name] field would represent something not purchased, i.e. ripped.

There is also a [Purchase Date] field.

MC is flexible, so you can do it however it makes sense to you, and just make a view to match.
