IdPi HDMI max. specs question
« on: June 13, 2020, 09:23:08 pm »

Hi,

I'm just about to purchase a couple IdPi(s)...

What's the HDMI version (e.g., 2.0a, 2.0b, 2.1) and the maximum HDMI audio output specifications -- with the current configuration/model being shipped?

In particular I'm interested in whether it can do all (or most) of these:

PCM 8 channel, 24-bit up to 192kHz (and including 88.2kHz and 176.4kHz)
PCM 2 channel, 24-bit up to 384kHz (and including 88.2kHz and 176.4kHz and 352.8kHz)
Native DSD (64, 128, 256, 512)
DoP DSD (64, 128, 256, 512)
Bitstreaming: TrueHD 7.1/Atmos
Bitstreaming: DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1
Bitstreaming: DST-X/7.1

Thank you.

Derek, are you planning on using the IdPis for video?

'twould seem so, given that you're interested in multi-channel audio.

From https://www.jriver.com/Id/ - the IdPi:

Makes a good player for audio ...
... so, while not explicit, the inference is that video is not the IdPi's strong suit.

Then there's this:

Known Issues
...

The Raspberry Pi can't play multi-channel output through HDMI.

The above may be out of date but it's enough to suggest caution to me.

If it's not out of date, then it would be worthwhile for the JRiver crew to revise the detail.

Actually ... audio only. Not planning to use it for video at all. With the supposedly best NVIDIA Shield 2019 streaming box (Android TV), there are still many limitations on what I can stream from my LAN in terms of multi-channel and/or hires audio files. I thought having the full JRiver MC networking client to push files to from my JRiver MC PC server might cover all the bases.
