Build 160: Streaming Problems
« on: April 24, 2003, 05:51:32 pm »

1. The following streaming audio links play just fine in Windows Media Player, but do not play in Media Center. All involve Windows Media:

http://www.brandoclassicotr.com/otr.asx
http://www.mediabay.com/stations/asx/otr.asx
http://www.otrnow.com/tunein/otrnowlive.wax

2. Attempting to play other streaming web audio, e.g. NDR 2 pops up the full screen interface when playing. Reconnecting from the main screen by hitting play does not cause this problem.

not sure why mine doesn't say it's usual "scotlands best variety of etc. etc.?
Also, yours play in what MC calls "directx player" and say it cannot run visualisations and mine calls itself a "wma stream" and uses visualisations. I'm sure my stream is .asx too though??

All this on a clean XP install. I'm going to format this thing here (only been 6 months since the last one ::))
I'll keep an eye on what, if anything, breaks what, as I re-install all the schizzo........

watch this space.......

DWAnderson,

1. All three stations work for me with MC 9.0.160. If the stations in your Media Library, find and delete them, and try again.

2. There is not much we can do about that. ASX file which stations send to us do not always specify what the stream is going to be, so if type is unknown we assume that it's video and that's why it jumps to full screen.

B160:

Axioms (www.axioms.org) used to play...no go now. So I deleted the original...did a search...found axioms again and stuck it back into My Stations. It DL'd something, went into a waiting mode, then stopped.

10-27

edit: May be as simple as axioms being offline...web site was not available either

edit2: DW...your links work for me as well (copy & pasted into Open Streaming File)

How are you getting them to work? I am trying Open Streaming File from the file menu and pasting the URLs above. The station name comes up, but nothing actually plays. Is there something else I should be doing?

I just click on the links. I'll try using them in Open Streaming File.

Thanks. When I click on the links they open in WMP  because the MC is not the default player for this type of media (and I'd like to keep it that way). I just also want access to these streams from within MC.

Well, I could reproduce the problem only if I had trailing space after URL. New build will remove trailing spaces.

See the new thread I'm posting on build 161. I think I've narrowed down the issue somewhat.
