Taking screen grabs from an avi file
« on: April 25, 2003, 01:10:04 pm »

I am not sure if this is down to Windows AVI files or the direct show filters I have installed or my PC or what but every time I try and take a screen grab and this is now with Zoom Player, Power DVD, Photoshop and the new funtion in MC, I pause at the frame I want to grab, try and grab it and the player jumps forward or back a few frames to a designated frame.  It is always the same frame and it is never the frame I wanted to grab...

What gives?  Can anyone else grab frames from avis succesfully?  Some are div X encoded and some are OGMs but none can successfully grab the frame I want...

Adam,

I was able to grab frames succesfully from AVI's (divx) so far. I did a few tests on various AVI's, no problems with the two grab modes (file, thumbnail).

Maybe, as you said, it's a problem with codecs and/or Direct Show.

Damn...I knew it would be something at this end.  I will see if I can change my direct show filters.  I am using DivXG400.  Dunno if that is causing the probs...

CMagic,

What codecs are u using for your divx's?  I was using the SLD Codec pack and this was the one which contained DivXG400 or whatever it is called.  I have now removed this thinking things would be okay only now I cannot see any video for the fiels at all :(

Hi,

I'm using the original mpeg4 codecs from divx.com (divxbundle).
