Is there a way to either stop MC from remembering the place you left off in a movie, or to just reset that tag on close/open of MC?

Open Tools > Options. Enter "Bookmark" in the search field at the bottom.

You will see the setting. I use Automatic. You may prefer Ask.

Did you know that if you press Stop twice when you stop watching a movie, instead of once, the Bookmark will be cleared. Also, if you watch past 90% of the movie, it will start from the beginning next time.
