Problems with DSD256 (Solved!)
« on: June 08, 2020, 06:36:25 pm »

Hi,
I'm trying to convert on the fly 24/96 material to DSD256 but the result is deceiving: stutter and again stutter.
On my i3 CPU is 30% so I guess that's not a performance problem.
When I convert 16/44.1 or 24/44.1 material I have no problems.
But unexpectedly I I have no problems when I convert from 88.2 material, so the problem seems related to the resampling from 48-based material to 44.1-based material (the one supported by my Audiolab M-DAc+).
As a confirmation 16/48 material has the same problem: stutter and again stutter.
I know that the Mathematics is not trivial, but why JRiver Media Center is unable to do it properly?
Thanks

Do you load the full file into memory?

Yes, for sure, both decoded and not decoded.
It seems that you noticed the reason (the difficult -non binary- Mathematics from 48-based material to 44.1-based DSD) before me.
In version 26.0.85 I had no more this problem (I have just installed version 26.0.87). At least it seems.
Let me continue to test.
If it works ... congratulations! the gap among JRiver Media Center and HQPlayer is reducing (or it's null, I guess): with the optimization done by Fidelizer Plus I'm unable to distinguish among those products (and, given the huge amount of CPU required by ASDM7, I was unable to go, with HQPlayer, beyond DSD128).
Congratulations again!

It is worth pointing out that JRiver doesn't support using third-party optimizer apps. So if you use them, you may be on your own if you have issues.

In .85 a change was made to the PCM to DSD conversion that increased accuracy and decreased CPU requirements. Seems like that upgrade fixed your problem. That is good news.
