Can't run MC25 in VNC

I have MC25 installed on an x64 box running Ubuntu 18.04.4 LTS .

When I run it under the built-in VNC server, I get the following :

madbrain@SERVER10G:~/Desktop$ mediacenter25
Xlib:  extension "RANDR" missing on display ":1.0".
Segmentation fault (core dumped)
madbrain@SERVER10G:~/Desktop$

What do I need to do to get it to work ?

I'm not trying to play video over VNC. I just want to be able to to do things like edit the library remotely.
