DLNA Gapless Playback
(1/1)
LennyM:
I moved from a laptop running MC into a DAC, to the same laptop and MC controlling a DLNA renderer into the DAC. It worked easily and sounds great.
But I seem to have lost gapless playback. That option has disappeared (as has everything else from Options-Audio) when telling MC to run a DLNA device.
Can I recover gapless playback using the DLNA?
Thank you.
LennyM:
I did the search I should have done earlier and now see that many users have had the same issue.
For the moment I am using an Oppo 105 as the renderer, and as I wrote earlier it sounds fine. I am planning, though, to get something even better, but it may take a while. I do still have 3 questions:
In an earlier post announcing MC improvements it said: "your device still MUST support GetMediaInfo as well as SetNextAVTransportURI for gapless playback." I gather that the Oppo does not met these requirements. Am I correct?
Is there a list of renderers that do meet these requirements? Or if I contact a manufacturer and ask, will they know what these are?
Would the purchase of the latest MC27 solve this problem for me using the Oppo?
Thanks.
Awesome Donkey:
You might try running AndrewFG's app Whitebear Digital Media Renderer Analyser and run it against your Oppo 105 and see what the report says, but I seem to recall the Oppo 105 doesn't support SetNextAVTransportURI which is needed for gapless playback over DLNA.

If you do run the app and in the report it says AVT:SetNextAVTransportURI (gapless play)=NOT Supported then gapless playback won't work at all. There's nothing JRiver Media Center can do about it if the Oppo 105 doesn't support SetNextAVTransportURI.
LennyM:
Thank you for your response. I appreciate the continuing support for MC23.
As an MC23 person I would appreciate knowing what the latest MC offering offers me beyond what I already have. It would seem to be reasonable marketing for JRiver to have a "sticky" and succinct thread here that could be updated with each new MC edition.
